I'm on the hunt for a new (to me) estate car.

5 series or 3 series is on the possibles list of the early Euro6 vintage (ULEZ proofing) so 2014-2017 ISH.

A lot of the obligatory dashboard pictures show a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it just by the 0 on the speedometer or in the bottom centre of the dash.

It's not the handbrake. That's a red symbol more centrally and my Google skills are failing me on this one light.

Anyone know what it is?

If it's a "needs fixing" item then it'll save me wasting time looking at these cars with any more scrutiny.

FFS Dominic, this thread could have run for ages, but you ruined it on the first post 😀

Joust for the OP, its an "alert" and the Check Control above will tell you, but I suspect the reason its so common is the fact the car is flagging for an past MOT due date, service due date, low fuel or some other "sitting on a forecourt" related issue.   Just have a check first.

The triangle/exclamation light is a generic warning.  Comes up when fuel hits low, washers low, bulb gone etc.  More detail pops up via idrive. I have a 2018 F31.  Same on the mini and 1 series I had.

@doomanic thanks it was the top one. It just didn't appear on the other lists I found.    👍

@unsponsored thanks - low fuel could be it for a number of them given they are on forecourts/up for sale.

Pretty much every ad I look at the thing is lit up but actually may not be a major cause for concern given the low fuel levels of a lot of them.

I would expect in the vast majority of cases it is low fuel rather than anything actually wrong

😂 Well I'm grateful at least.  I'm torturing myself enough with the EClass/5series/V70 or just give up and buy a newer Skoda instead without a whole thread of doubt and uncertainty.

It's a warning light that comes on for all sorts of things on my 5 series including telling me that the rear seats have been folded down! A message comes up to provide more information. An engine management light on the right hand side of the instrument cluster warns about engine related issues
