You know, the portable soundbar types. Wife wants one, and found an Amazon one for £20 but I 'worry' that its a tinny piece of crap. Anyone got any first hand experience without going stupid money wise? Ta.

I've got a Sony one that was about £40. Its the cube one. It's not a tinny piece of crap, not bad sound quality but not brilliant. Perfect for traveling and if you're in a small room or something but you're always going to struggle with a small speaker.

I too have a Sony one that cost me around £40 but having had some fantastic quality Anker Bluetooth headphones for the past year it's definitely give that one linked above a go.

Just picked up one of these from appliances direct
Only had a 5 minute play with it so far but sound seems really good, comparable if not better (slightly less bassy) than my Bose Soundlink mini
Works Bluetooth and WiFi, apple airplay etc
I wouldn’t pay £100 for it let alone £300 but for £30 it’s a steal
I think I might get a second one

Ue. Over budget yes but ace. Got the kids a roll each last Christmas. Great sound quality, waterproof, bomb proof, take them everywhere. Laddos even had his strapped to the bars of his bmx with the handy laggy strap that comes attached. After hearing them in unison, I upped the ante and treated myself to the ue boom.

Yet another Anker Soundcore owner here - hard to go wrong for that price and you have to spend a lot more to get anything substantially better.

Another vote for the Anker Soundcore 2, read lots of good reviews and got one whilst it was on offer and it had definitely lived up to all the reviews, well built, great battery life, loud and decent sound quality.

JBL Flip 3 is superb. Got it blasting right now!

Better than my Bose Soundlink Mini at twice the price.

They do a Flip 4; don't know what they've changed tho...

I just bought an Anker Soundcore Mini for £17 and its pretty amazing (has bluetooth, jackplug, sd card .. inputs). If I’d done some more research I would probably have gone for that one above for the few extra £££

FWIW I have Anker battrey packs and lightening cables and its all been good kit, brand loyalty for me

Another Anker Soundcore 2 owner bought whilst on offer @ £35. Great speaker. Like Jambalaya I've got a number of Anker bits and pieces and they have never let me down.

Another Anker Soundcore owner. I often take it away with me when travelling and it puts a lot of the top end speakers to shame.

Very nearly went Anker as it'd picked up a lot of recommendations off here before, but ended up going with this which I like (makes a daft noise when you turn it on and off)

Those JBL Flips are nice though, I heard one in a shop last week and nearly thought it was a Sonos 1 before I saw it!

Had a psyc but sent it back as out wouldnt allow charging whilst being used. Bought a Taotronics unit to replace it and been really pleased (nearly 2 years old)

One more vote for the UE Boom, lovely sound quality, very robust and I like that if you push some of the buttons it will tell you how much battery is left!

Only via your source. Pressing Play/Pause on the speaker controls the paired device.

Can anyone compare the Anker Soundcore 2 and Soundcore Boost?

The boost looks nicer by a long way. I saw it in the pre Xmas sale for about £42 unfortunately by the time I re clicked on it it was back up to £52!

Hoping it might be in same again

I did a recent PSA for the Aether Cone a while ago - some got one and seemed to like it.

I think there are some great speakers out there - if you can listen to one in a shop or a friends house then thats usually best as people like different sounds.

I have a B&W Zepplin and love it ( a bit more expensive, but found it on here second hand)

Not cheap but Minirig sounds fantastic and made in Bristol. Can link to a sub and chain with other minirigs too.

Just got the aether Cone delivered this morning. For 30 quid it's amazing value, well built, nice looking (I got the black and copper one), heavy so has that quality feel (probably filled with stones).
Set up was a slight faff but I'm using it as a Bluetooth speaker so won't bother with the WiFi set up yet.
Sound is good. Much better than any other 30 quid speaker and infinitely better than my Samsung phone speaker. Don't know how it compares to high end stuff as Ive never heard them.
But for 30 quid it's a bargain.
