Can anyone recommend me a good cheap ish speaker. Want to take it camping so not too expensive but needs to hold a good charge. Happy to spend no more than £100
Make yourself sad, spend a bit more and get the Bose Sound link Mini. Top stuff.
I've been perfectly happy with my Pure Voca.
Got to be a JBL Flip2 - currently on Amazon for just under £50, the price fluctuates a lot. Get one.
Jbl flip or if you like uk made minirig
Another vote for the flip great value
I think my Cambridge Audio Minx Go is superb!
Loud, and powerful. Battery lasts for ages, it lasted whole journey to Southern alps last year in our van which had no stereo, and still wasnt flat. Has a USB slot to charge phones etc.
Only gripe is the charger is not a micro or mini USB, which would have been nice.
Spend a bit more and get a minirig. its so worth it! http://minirigs.co.uk/
Anker A7098 (or something like that). £30 from Amazon and perfectly fine for camping and general listening.
Battery life of 20 hours supposedly. I got one for my birthday on May 17 and haven't had to recharge it yet - been used a fair amount.
Mini rig is okay, but mine is at the back of the man-drawer since buying a "Sharkk Boombox" from Amazon, for £44.
Crap name, amazing sound. Recommended!
Nearly right...it's Anker A7908.
It's been reduced further.....£24!
Probably not as good as the £100 ones, but it is a great option if you are slinging it in a bag and taking it camping...won't be too much of a shame if it gets wet, dirty, lost, broken......?
Nothing touches the Bose although my old Tecknika £19 jobby was very competent.
Another vote for the Anker here. Good sound inc reasonable bass from a small cube. Foolproof operation. Charge lasts ages.
I tried loads (admittedly in the unsuitable surroundings of PC World) and ended up with the Sony SRS X3, which I found to be the best balance of cost/sound quality. The Bose may have been a bit better, but not double the cost better
In the classic recommend what you've got, I'll say Jambox. Not sure if they've come down to that price yet, but it's ace.
I have quite a few and Bose Soundlink Mini is the best by far. The JBL Flip2 has a brighter sound with less overpowering bass and is very good vfm. Battery life on the Flip2 isn't the best.
Currently listening to my Aldi Envivo £10 job which I take overseas with me and it's very impressive! Battery lasts about 10 hours too!!
My Anker is serving me well, great battery life as others have said. Obviously the sound quality isn't up to Bose standard but for £25ish great value for money.
Just took a punt on one of these
Aldi special buy speaker
surprised by the sound for the dosh
At that price the Flip 2 is a great buy. Went to a party where the kitchen was powered bu one and it was great
I think the Sony SRS 3 is better. bought my son one and never stop baing mazded by it, but its a good chunk more. The Bose is even more and I'm prepared to believe better than the Sony but I haven't heard them near enough in time to compare properly
Does anybody do one of these speakers that's NOT portable/battery powered?
i.e. Something where more money is spent on the amplifier and speakers rather than the battery?
PP, Sonus fits the bill if you connect via the network ( I assume you can as your inside where the mains ring is), or the B&W offerings if you want BT which is where I would spend my money.
I'm also surprised no one has mentioned the Cambridge audio yet.

Loads.
Pure
Sonos
Panasonic
LG
Samsung etc...
Some of them, like the Sonos only do wireless, not Bluetooth or a wired 3.5mm jack connection.
You need to be a bit careful depending on how you intend to use them. My brother-in-law bought a Sonos and didn't realise you could only use Spotify premium with it, rather than the free version.
Bose,
Expensive but very impressive,
Another +1 for the Anker. Bought mine after a similar thread on here at Xmas - best toy I've bought in ages! Battery life is phenominal, and now it comes everywhere with me (coupled with spotify on the phone) sound quality is dandy to my uncultured ear too. If they're now down to £24 I'll be getting them as presents for the family!

I've got a B&W A5 at home. £400 worth and it's amazing. That's being used on Apple AirPlay with some other bits and bobs.
What I want is something under £50 for the workshop at work.....
There's millions of battery ones at that price but not many mains powered ones.
I'll have a look at your suggestions though. 🙂
I did a lot of research on this and came up with
http://www.amazon.co.uk/JBL-Charge-Wireless-Bluetooth-Speaker/dp/B00MA4PVYY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418738453&sr=8-2&keywords=jbl+charge+2#customerReviews
best might be the Ultimate Ears one but it's closer to £200
most reviews of the bose seem to say good but overpriced
worth looking into NudeAudio too - people wax on about the sound of those...
Flip 2 and a power bank to re-charge it.
Really nice quality bit of kit for £50 and great sound for its size.
if it's for camping and the like so you want something more robust I can recommend the UE Boom (Ultimate Ears)
Water resistant and a 15 hour battery and has a great sound. Not as bassy as a the bose but still really good and pretty much bombproof. I've been really impressed with ours.
Got it from John Lewis for £100 just before christmas so comes with a decent warranty too
+1 for the bose sound link mini

Ah, I see. You didn't mention budget.
I suspect a lot of the mains powered ones are priced as 'premium products' - somewhat annoyingly.
The Pure Jongo range is probably your best bet then....the T2X can be had for £80, which although not 'under £50' isn't hugely above it either.
Or if you have an old stereo, you could get a Bluetooth adaptor to plug into it and stream via that....
I got a Sony one for about £100. Sound quality is excellent, it's really small and has a long-lasting battery in addition to mains power for annoying people on campsites.
I've got the UE Mini Boom, after reading the wirecutter article. (That website basically does away with the need for "what gadget" threads on here."
