[Closed] Bluetooth headphone connection issue

When listening to Bluetooth headphones via my phone, fairly often after 20 mins or so I get connection issues - the audio starts stuttering for a second or two, and this keeps happening with varying regularity, from occasional annoyance to unlistenable.

It happens with Spotify and BBC sounds, with my anker (£40ish) and Bose (£200ish) headphones only. Doesn't happen with my kenwood car stereo, or blaupunkt speaker. Only seems to happen when on 4g, but in areas with strong signal (I can be hanging out in the park with no issues, then it goes to shit).

Turning phone and headphones off and on doesn't seem to make much difference, and neither does pausing music to let it load more. State of charge seems to make no difference either.

Phone is a P20 pro, in decent condition and plenty of memory etc left. This has been going on for a year or so. As it doesn't have issues with other Bluetooth items, I can't see how it's the phone?

Any ideas?!

I reckon it's the phone. BT can be very temperamental.

I had an Android phone once that would keep not connecting to my car. My work iPhone worked just fine every time. 🤷‍♂️

Could be something running in the background. Could be external / environmental interference. Could be that BT on your phone is just a Bit Shit. Could be a hundred things.

Reckon I'd be factory resetting that and setting it back up with just your music player, then going from there. Your data is all backed up of course, isn't it?

Actually, that's a point, both of those apps are streaming services. Does it do it when you're not on Wi-Fi? Does it do it with locally stored audio? Do you have sufficient storage or is it filling a buffer? Before nuking it I'd be trying different apps to try and narrow it down, and try it on the mobile network if you've got sufficient data.

Nah, WiFi or 4g - does it on both. Just had 70 mins of soundcloud (4g) no bother. Also no prob with in car BT, just those 2 apps. Plenty of storage, cache on Spotify often wiped too.

Backup? 😬 I guess I should investigate that...

Check(and turn off, mibbe) the other Bluetooth devices around about.
Had the same issue with a Bluetooth speaker that did the same stuttering. Turned out to be a pair of taotronic headphones that were still in their case.
Worth a try.

Maybe look at battery saver settings? Huawei can be a bit overenthusiastic which can lead to some weirdness. Seems unlikely, but worth checking.

Probably down to the Bluetooth codec being used if you have developer options available you can change the codec. Google Huawei Bluetooth codec developer options.

I get the same thing when biking with my aeropex headphones. I reckon it is due to the phone running hot. It seems to coincide with the phone being roasting in my pocket. No idea why the phone is roasting as I close all apps apart from whatever music one I'm using and it is just sitting there. Bloody annoying though.
