Is the hook required because you've got funny-shaped lugholes and standard earbuds always fall out at the slightest jolt?
I ask because that's what always happened to me and I was resigned to wearing clunky headphones. A guy at work told me about memory foam earbuds tips and it's been a total game changer. They stay in, right in, whether I'm sat at my work desk, doing stuff in the gym or out on an hour's run, through sweat and rain and everything else. Might be worth a shot.
You’ve hit the nail on the head!
What are memory foam ear buds do they retro fit to existing ear buds like my jabra ones, which stay in when at my desk but on the bike or sometimes wandering around can fall out.
Quick bit of research on them (one article!) while looking for a shop with jabra ones suggests they have short life - circa 2 months.
Is that the case, if so I’m not sure that they’ll stack up economically for me!
I just bought a pack on Amazon, they were about £10 for 8 pairs. I've had the first pair in for just under 3 months and they're just starting to crumble a bit. But yes they're effectively universal fit, you just need to buy the ones with the correct internal diameter for your earbuds.
Tell a lie, they were £4.59 for 8 pairs: https://amzn.eu/d/gUFzjP8
The one thing I needed to do was trim about 1mm off the back with a Stanley knife. Before I did that it seemed like they fit in the case correctly but they weren't sitting on the contacts properly so they weren't charging.
Wife has some beats Powerbeats pro. Really, really good.
Beats Fit Pro user here. Never fallen out - even when sprinting - transparency mode, good battery life, and my sweat hasn't killed them in more than a year.
I have some Jabra 75 somethings and they are very good for sound quality, but they do not stay in my ears...3 different sizes of buds, 1 is far too small, 1 far too large and the other feeling like it fits but doesn't stay in...they fall out if I turn my head.
Can't find any adapter to get the ear support things added, I like them for the sound but don't use them enough as they keep falling out...off to see what these foam things are as they might transfer these into a daily usages.
A lot of my friends that run have Shokz (bone conducting) ones. They obviously let you hear your surroundings better and nothing to fall out as they don't go in your ears.
must admit I didn't consider those but they do look good if regular AirPod Pros don't work for you. Basically APPs but with slightly less features/sound quality and more secure fitting. 👍 Some derivative of AirPods is a no-brainer if you have an iPhone IMO (doubly so if multiple Apple devices as transitioning between them is so effortless!)Beats Fit Pro user here.
Aeropex by Aftershokz work for me. Bought for running duties; can wear with helmet (can be a slight issue if wearing glasses as well but not insurmountable); double as headset for WFH if I've forgotten my 'work' one. Not the cheapest but work really well for what I need.
Thanks all.
i have the jabra’s too and have the same problem with the tips.
i used to use the shokz ones (basic model) but people complained on teams that they couldn’t hear me very clearly so stopped using them.
The beats fit pro - are they a bit of a halfway house between full over ear loop and stand-alone ear buds. @flaperon- did you get them because simple ear buds fall out of your lug holes?
One thing to bear in mind with hooks is that they can be uncomfortable when combined with glasses/sunglasses! Take yours with you and try before you buy, unlike me 🤣
I've been using a pair of Earshots since 2021, they're great and absolutely cannot fall out. You can hear what's going on around you because they fit in your ear, rather than in the ear canal. Only downside is that they can interfere with wearing glasses
STW to the rescue again. Was going to ask this. I also have to have hooks none of the many I have tried over the years stay in when I run, regardless of tip size etc. Gone for cheap ones from amazon which work but would like better sound.
Shure Aonics for ultmate hookiness ?

Those Shure ones look great but a tad spendy. You get what you pay for but begrudge spending that on something i will be sweating over..... Any recommendations <£100???
Interesting design those shure ones - the bluetooth driver is a separate plug in unit.
being a glasses wearer on the bike, the fit pro with the in ear wing or the foam tips on my jabra’s looks like the way to go for me, recognising that neither will be secure as over the ear ones.
