Will something like this allow me to use it as a loudspeaker for the phone's sat nav, as well as a loud speaker for phone calls?
Kind of assumed it would, but wondered if they're only activated during a phone call.

I think so.
I have a jabra cruiser and it does what you say. It also broadcasts on fm so you can stream music via bt from your phone to the stereo, it fades when sat nav instructions speak and will also pause music when phone rings.
That sounds good. Not that much more expensive for the jabra cruiser as well.
