Hi Fi numpty question. I need to rig up a Bluetooth receiver to an old Denon analogue amplifier and speakers, so I can stream Spotify to it. The amp is ancient, and only has phono inputs (is that what they are called? Jack plug thingies).
Is there a Bluetooth gizmo I can buy (cheaply if poss) that will do this? Ideally something I can buy on Amazon as I need it this weekend. Top notch hi-fi is not required, it's for music in an outbuilding for a party
Yeah. Probably a million of them on Amazon. Likely with 3.5mm Jack output, so you may want a jack socket to phono plug adaptor too.
There is something for this - I have one. Logitech I think it is....
Works a treat - does seem to trump all other bluetooth connections though, so you sometimes have to manually disconnect it if you need to connect to something else, but its worked seamlessly for me for the last 3 years.
{EDIT}. Mine is Logitech - the one above isn't but it looks identical and is available tomorrow!
Did you look?

I got something like this that was just the circuit board for even cheaper, but this seems like a neat option
Thanks all, I will take a look at those 👍

Of course. But I am baffled by the choice and unsure what will and won't work. Which is why I asked!
I have the same Logitech device, had it for years, works fine.
Bluetooth is a PITA for this because it relies on you being within range, also it'll start playing adverts, or whatever else you scroll past on your phone whilst listening to music as it's just mirroring your phones output.
Chromecast audio on the other hand connects directly to the wi-fi as a standalone device, so once you've set spotify to play via the chromecast it won't be interrupted.
Or you can just use an old android phone, preferably one old enough to work with the battery removed, or download a battery manager app that'll let you limit the charging to ~30% full.
I got my dad one of those Logitech clones to play Spotify from his phone to his old Rotel amp. Works fine for a 70 something year old.
Thisisnotaspoon has a valid point but it's no different to using headphones with your phone. Also I just know that casting to a Chromecast audio device will have flummoxed my dad. Also can you still buy a Chromecast audio puck?
I have the same Logitek device and it works well with my 45 year old A&R Cambridge A60 (which uses DIN plugs!)
What about a Wiim mini and add streaming options on top of Bluetooth for about fifty quid?
Wiim mini for £50? Or are you saying that's the uplift over the cost of a Bluetooth receiver?
I've ordered the one @dickydutch linked above. Point noted about Bluetooth range, it should work fine for what I have in mind. Thanks all
wiim mini is really the winner if you are streaming spotify as then you don't need to have your phone within bluetooth range all the time. I know you have already bought something of course, this is just for when someone else lands on this thread next week 🙂
Top notch hi-fi is not required, it’s for music in an outbuilding for a party.
It’s going to be better than cassette mixtapes!
I have an Ifi bluetooth receiver going spare... It's a top notch piece of kit. Plugged into an Audio incinerations valve amp with snell speakers it was cracking!
