You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've got 5 or 6 available, DM please so that I don't send codes when someone else has all ready fulfilled the need.
I have a few codes available. PM if interested
Same.
Honestly, I think at this point it's probably dead. It felt like a beta product when I signed up and little has changed that I can see.
I hope you're wrong cougar, as I've been really enjoying bluesky and spending less and less time on Twitter as a result. Partly it's a bit quieter on there but also having set up my feed from scratch has allowed me to be a bit more thoughtful about what I want from social media.
My suspicion is that it’s just a symptom of post-Twitter fragmentation. I’ve gone to Bluesky, others to eg. Substack, others have given up. It’ll take a bit of time for the new normal to settle out.
Being a Neil Gaiman and Robin Ince fan, Bluesky has been great 😀
I'm not sure Neil sleeps...
Threads is okay, but I prefer Bluesky at the moment...
Switched to blue sky to follow a couple of politicos and have barely looked at twitter in about a month. When I did it was the usual broadside of onlyfans tarts following me and endless shit posting. Blue sky has been relatively amusing although you realise it's a bubble of pleasant like minded people laughing at the government. Other bubbles are presumably available

They’re about to introduce the ability to view without logging in, which Twi, sorry X, removed, and there’s some more changes upcoming, from what I understand; meanwhile Musk’s ongoing destruction of Twitt… sorry, X continues apace, most major advertisers are shutting down spending, others will almost certainly follow suit, not wanting to be seen to be the ones left sitting next to anti-Semitic rhetoric and the comments from the fascist Right.
I don’t go onto Bluesky much, but then I’m never on any other social media platform much either, Facebook possibly most; after four or five years away, I’m reconnecting with some friends and family, plus now I’m a member of an archery club, I need to use Fb and Messenger for updates regarding shooting days.
…. and I've another code if anyone wants.
I have a spare code if anyone wants it.
Is Gaiman on there? I’ll go and follow…
He's never off there, or so it seems. He's a good follow.
Aye, certainly looks that way.
I’ve got a spare code, it popped into my mail inbox yesterday. TBH, I don’t use Bluesky often, but neither do I use many other platforms, Fb occasionally to contact friends and family, or maybe an artist, Twi… sorry X, to troll the occasional asshole who I feel deserves it, and that’s about it.
Just had a quick look. I'm struggling to find relevant content or people I know to follow. Search for mtb stuff and there's not much, especially UK related.
Plenty on Threads though. Mostly everyone I already follow on Insta.
Threads is getting infected with the trash from Xhitter though. It's okay if I stick to the Following feed, but gets nasty on the For You feed. I'm blocking or muting a lot already.
Once Larry the Cat is on Threads and/or Bluesky then I know it's taken off 😄
Twitter is gone. Account deleted. Too toxic. I could do without them all really, though Insta has nice bike pics and vids (and cats).
Someone has posted this - apparently helps you find your Twitter people on Bluesky.
Haven’t tested it and I’m a bit wary of anything that needs you to submit username and password but if anyone is feeling braver than me…

Yeah, same here, dumped it a while back. Threads seems to be going the same way if I'm honest.
I'd completely forgotten about Bluesky but I've just received my invite code and have now created an account.
I don't post on social media much (other than on this hallowed turf) but having got hugely disappointed with Twitter recently and not liking Threads (really don't like having to have an account for 1 app just so I can access another) so thought I'd give it a go.
Seems mostly harmless so far. Any recommendations for a lurker and occasional reporter to follow? As mentioned above, I've already tracked down Robin Ince & Neil Gaiman but any other suggestions will be welcome, cheers.
Should anyone be looking for me I'm @simc66.bsky.social
Are you sure? Not finding you.
Well, that's what it says here -

War on Cars always worth a follow.
@ThePinkster @MrSparkle I have a suspicion the database takes time to populate so people don’t show up on search straightaway.
I know there are more codes washing about than we know what to do with but I’ve another one if anyone wants it.
It's making more sense now the more I follow but seems have to do more work to get the right topics coming up. Found plenty of nerdy stuff but very little mtb.
There's also "feeds" for topics of interest but involves coding to set one up. Again not much mtb there, not UK specific especially. Could get a singletrack feed going maybe?
A lot less "QT blah blah", "post gif from year you were born", and all that info harvesting stuff Threads is full of at the moment.
Could get a singletrack feed going maybe?
Not sure how to do that but if you want to give it a go?
Not sure either. Their link about it takes you to their feed generator which means coding and hosting. I could do the code side but it's time/effort and hosting costs money plus having to support it.
https://github.com/bluesky-social/feed-generator
There's a couple of services that appear to let you create feeds without coding (and they host it?), but they seem to require your username and password to Bluesky and I'm not about to give away my credentials. At the very least they should be using identity providers and you authorise their app so credentials are never handed over.
Bump. More codes landed today (though at this point I can’t give them away…)
Could get a singletrack feed going maybe?
Looks like there’s a ‘lists’ feature - could someone agree to curate a list of STWers or would people rather not?
Also with update 1.6 people can see posts without being logged in.
And, I’ve just found out how to set a domain name as a handle (not looking at e.g. @mark on this one) - instructions here https://blueskyweb.xyz/blog/4-28-2023-domain-handle-tutorial
@redthunder - sorry, not ignoring you, I’d rather forgotten this thread and only just come back to check it out. I’m in Chippenham, so Cyppa, the old Saxon name for Chippenham. We’ve shut down now until mid January, then we’re back indoors until March, our outdoor club site becomes a quagmire with all the rain we’ve been getting.
I must get back onto Bluesky and check out Neilhimself on there, and see if William Gibson is as well.
Could someone message me a code, thanks 🙂
Never really done twitter...but FOMO 😉
Have DM’d you
Thanks guys, I'll use a code and return the other!
Anyone want a code ?
Haha, can't work out how to get past the housing provider (BT Internet). Tried various urls, unless it wants a specific format like when setting up your email server?
I tried 'staging' but neither of the invite codes were valid so I guess that's due to using the wrong server...
To get started you just need to go to https://bsky.app, create a new account and use the default hosting (the instructions I put in above are for people who have their own domain, so ignore for now). Once you’ve clicked past there it’ll ask for your invite code.
Thanks, for some reason I thought I needed to change it!
👍
I’ve followed you.
Followed back. Don't expect much from me 🤣
It’s obviously invite day if anyone wants one.
And again.
And more
Bump - now open to all https://bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post/3kkqwku6ia32i
Can you search all of Bluesky yet ?
Anyway, look forward Single Track World account showing up soon 🙂
Just had an update which brings in a load of Twitteresque features including hashtag support and keyword blocking.
Well aware than possibly no-one cares but they’ve turned on DMs on Bluesky. Which is nice.
Bump. Bit of an influx with recent Twitter issues…
Is it still a thing ?
Yes. Much busier the last couple of days.
anyone else on there?
@chriskimberley.bsky.social
musk can kiss my arse
I’m there. Just followed a couple of you.
I’m @mrstevious.bsky.social
Joined up.... ourmaninthenorth
just having a nosey. never really got on with twitter/X, hashtags, tweets, retweets and all that palarver. if i didnt get on with that, should i stay away from this? same sort of thing?
I've just joined – it seems quite quiet so far but my faves from X (FessHole and AnonOpin) are there, along with an official Leeds United channel so it's good. Unfortunately, my kids' school isn't on there yet but I am sure it will happen. @harrogatemike
ColourNoise - your Bluesky name is one of those that one has to reread a couple of times. Thought you were a svelte wave rider 😉
I'm there as @sussexepic.bsky.social - not that I'm posting anything [useful]
Copied from Dave Troy on Twitter (so you don’t have to click a Twitter link)
/IMPORTANT thread about Bluesky, for those fleeing there. Folks know that it was seeded by Jack Dorsey around a libertarian vision of a magical network that wouldn’t need moderation because it would be decentralized and baked into a protocol (somehow).
2/The people who aided Dorsey in pursuing this vision were other libertarian/post-rationalists connected with effective altruism and other online anarchist movements. One network called TPOT (‘that part of Twitter’) was instrumental. It carried over into Bluesky’s founding DNA.
3/Someone made the visualization above in 2023, showing the TPOT/EA network quite clearly. EA as you know is part of TESCREAL and the belief systems that have driven Sam Bankman Fried and Elon Musk. SBF also put money into Musk’s Twitter buy.
4/Now that Dorsey has bailed, Bluesky’s DNA is basically TPOT people but without a funding source. Who is going to win in that scenario? I don’t know, but I’m not putting money on the users.
5/Bluesky’s most recent funding round was provided by Blockchain Capital LLC. What do those folks want from their investment? I don’t know. But that’s the question to be asking. Crypto money outspent Big Oil in this cycle … to the tune of $200mm.
So anyway it’s fun to call it “the good place” but the fact is users will likely once again get a rude awakening when it either collapses or is captured by Musk, or worse. You’re using a free service on someone else’s dime; you should ask what they want from you.
7/More on that Blockchain Capital LLC funding round here.
10/?It get’s worse. Blockchain Capital LLC was co-founded by Steve Bannon pal Brock Pierce, a major crypto advocate, perennial presidential candidate, and close friend of Eric Adams. Pierce has dozens of other shady MAGA/Russia ties as well.

Which is true, ultimately I think Bluesky will end up being funded by some sort of advertising but it's structured in such a way as to make an ElMo style takeover much harder.
…time to move to Truth Social!
Rumour (which may have been someone having a laugh) that X and TS are going to merge. I think that's doubtful as the banks who lent ElMo the money for X might have something to say about it.
Any service that you don't pay for (and some that you do) will be subject to enshittification. It's inevitable. In the mean time, Bluesky is a far better place than Xitter, and probably Threads too.
Has something just changed? I have like three followers on bsky, I've just had like 100+ new ones in the last 24 hours.
@ukcougar.bsky.social
Is Bluesky moderated - do they have the processes and resources setup to remove offensive material and bots?

I've just read the long post above so possibly not. I left twitter a few months before the current grand exodus because of all the rightwing bullshit and disinformation. But I do miss the breaking news side of it.
I'll see how it develops - if Bluesky works out and has a strong current affairs/politics game than I may join later
Well I've just found fesshole on there so I'm pretty pleased
@olddog Yes, it all seems to happen pretty efficiently. How is a different question I don’t know the answer to.
Cougar, you may have been put on a “starter list” of people to follow for some particular topic.
but whatever, pretty much everyone I followed on Twitter is now on bsky so that’s that.
The only problem is it’s still the plaything of a bunch of tech bros liable to enshittify the minute it starts to be significant. Ho hum.
Edit: sorry I do usually read threads before posting!
Im on Bluesky, essentially just to read a few journos etc after binning twitter in the summer.
i seem to pick up followers quite regularly, almost exclusively on the back of liking a post - the poster often follows me. I have no idea why, I am not saying or posting anything on my own account other than a picture of a dog etc, and they don't comment or like my dog so I am assuming it's a another reason. Or they are just weird.
I’ve signed up and spent the last few hours searching for my Twitter follows and I’ve found 50 out of 106, out of those 50 only 6 have any posts.
So back to Twitter it is.
Has something just changed? I have like three followers on bsky, I’ve just had like 100+ new ones in the last 24 hours.
Have they got their tits out? Most of my followers on "a social media site previously known as Twitter" have since Elon took over.

There's a chrome plug in that will do that for you, blue sky bridge or something.
not on chrome, bog standard safari does me fine
not on chrome, bog standard safari does me fine
I use Safari as my default too, but not installing an alternative browser for a one off task to save you hours of work seems a bit counter productive!
^ what can I say in my defence?…………….I’m just weird
Twitter users *rolls eyes and sighs* 🙂
Having had a go with Threads I've joined Bluesky now. Seems more like Twitter before it went bab.
Followed some of you, @brocklanders.
I might have to sign up to this Bluesky malarkey.
I've just seen Twitter/X described as an 'online Nazi bot sewer'.
That couldn't be more accurate IMO.
