Are blu-ray players more prone to skipping or overly sensitive to disc quality?
I bought a Toshiba BDX1100 a few months ago, and I've only managed to watch one movie without it skipping. Even discs that look absolutely spotless seem to have the odd skip in them. Player has the latest firmware.
Googling doesn't seem to throw much up, so just wondered if other blu-ray users have noticed anything?
i feel bad that nobody has replied to this so i'll offer my limited experience.... never had that problem with me (sony i think) blu-ray player.
what kinda skipping, jumping through the timeline, or pausing?
Faulty player?
Mine (Sony) had an issue when I first got it, where it'd blackout the screen for a few milliseconds, maybe twice during a movie. I'd upgraded cables, amp, BD player etc all at the same time, so troubleshooting was difficult.
The problem seems to have gone away now, and I'm not wholly sure why. I suspect it might've been one of the firmware updates to the player.
As for skipping (like a DVD / CD might), I've only had that happen once, with a LoveFilm rental disc. Took it out and cleaned it (radially), put it back and it was fine.
phil - skipping has included a weird kind of slow motion effect, and the more usual stopping then hunting around on the disc for a good spot before carrying on. Or not!
Cleaning has had no effect on any of the discs, and they (mostly) look absolutely perfect to the naked eye. Almost all are Lovefilm rentals though, I don't know if that's significant or not?
Maybe I should return it, Amazon are usually pretty good with stuff like this.
I've had a couple of Blu rays of a hundred or so that I've watched from Lovefilm that skipped or cause the my Sony player to crash, cleaning the disc sorted the problem out.
Never had a similar problem with my blu-ray player, have watched a lot of films (blu-ray, DVD and AVI from data disc) and only had an issue with 1 disc, which was faulty, I use mine as a CD source for the system in the lounge too with no issue. Sounds like a faulty player to me.
in my experience there's no more skipping or failure to read with bluray discs.
Cheers
Amazon only have a 30 day return policy it seems - that can't be right, can it?
If an electronic or photography product becomes defective after 30 days you won't be able to return it using our Online Returns Centre. We'd recommend referring to the manufacturer's website to locate their contact details as they should be able to offer troubleshooting and support. If you still can't resolve the problem after consulting with the manufacturer, please Contact Us.
with others, sounds like a player issue, have used Panasonic players and PS3 for the last 3 years with no skipping issues.
Have you looked here for manufacture support?
I have jim, and I've dropped them an email in the first instance. Cheers
