Just about to lay a small block paving area and was wondering, if I want a depth of foundation/base, in this case scalpings, and then 'whacker' them, do I allow for it 'settling', ie fill to 5" deep to finish up with 4" deep base?

or does it not settle too much when whackered?

ta

Dave

I've got scalpings as a temp driveway at the moment and they have settled more than an inch in the high traffic areas, but this may be them spreading.. Defo whacker if your using scalps. Why not Type 1mot, then a dry(ish) sand cement mix to lay?

Just to add, if its going to have any heavy traffic, put a geotextile membrane down, it really will stop sag.

cheers, its only light foot traffic and only 8ft x 8ft so not a big area.

Whacker is in the garage and the scalps are down, just unsure how much to overfill?

I'll try and inch over , whacker and then see where I end up

How much it whacks down by depends on the PSD of the scalps, which can be a bit variable.
