Sometimes I miss the Canadian winter, as I romantically think of it as character building.

But not this year!

I suspect most of Europe will be rocking the solar minimum/ La Niña effect at some point in the next couple of months. Hopefully not -25 though.

I saw this yesterday. Potential for a properly cold mid/end of January...

I've thought that for a while this year, been reasonably cold for the end of the year and a couple of weeks ago was baltic too. After about 4/5 years of mild winters, we're due some proper balticness I think, alarm bells ringing for jan/feb probably into march.

Finland here.
I have commuted 26 km a day (13 each way) when it has been -32 C.

It is not too much fun.

For one, my nose doesn't like the cold air. Once I got to work to notice I'd gotten a nosebleed halfway there, and my moustache and beard were all frozen blood.

At the moment, there isn't even snow, or freezing temps. Just blackness and light drizzle. All the snow is further north, and I envy them. Nothing better than winter snowy trail riding, which has been in very short supply on the south coast for a few years now.

My wife is a bit of a weather nerd and has been predicting a vicious winter for a few months now. She's like the bloody Daily Express (except she's generally right).
