@ DezB - Projecting much 😆
If I was reading up on the subject I'd go for something more substantial by an author with a recognised qualification. Rather than a self help quack with a book to sell. Each to their own, whatever floats your boat and all that.
Saw this last night and blown away. Thought provoking on so many levels I haven't even begun to gather/order my thoughts as let. The human condition..........
I'm am really not a God-botherer (and yet...) but enjoyed Giles Fraser's TOTD the other morning with the Roy reference.

Anyone seen it for a second time yet?
Watched it a a Vue cinema and it was loud, very loud, not loud enough to wake a guy snoring after an hour!
I'm going again this week Alex.
Seen it twice now. First time on a "normal" screen because I wasn't sure if they'd mess it up or not, and I didn't want to waste my money.
Then went again last week to see it on Imax as it just demanded the proper big screen 3D experience. Better the 2nd time around!
Went in our local cinema the wonderful http://www.statecinema.com.au/Page/Home which lets you take a beer in with you, silent and perfectly observed apart from the guy taking 5 mins to unwrap a sweet.
From the moment the first notes of the score hit I was in.
I can see the style over substance and too long comments but and a huge but
giving you time to absorb the visuals, to soak up the atmosphere and to let your mind play through what was happening was great. The pace was near perfect but there may have been a few seconds in a some scenes that could have been cut - and the damm flashback scene - very unnecessary.
On the character of Joi - the ambiguity as to who she is working for/controlled by/influenced by or who is listening in was crucial - if you didn't think she was a major part then you missed a lot of the film. The idea of what a replicant can be and needs following on from where Roy got us to - the idea that a replicant can live in the society is a key one.
On the sexism issues and the way women are portrayed in the film, BR isn't there to tell us what the future should be but where it could be, a society where the brightest and best have left for offworld and the ones left have no hope, the idea that those who are left are at the bottom, numbing their pain with sex, alcohol and consumerism is a telling insight into what can happen if the direction is not corrected.
The nods to the original were great, Panam was fun, the bee on the arm in vegas? and more I won't even remember. It will be getting a rewatch when it comes to the smaller screen.
as an aside I did see Arrival being brought up before - yep if you didn't like the pace stay away.
List of best films I've seen this year
Arrival
Nocturnal Animals
Logan
Blade Runner 2049
Baby Driver
If lots of people like it you didn't aim high enough.
So finally got to see it
Was amazing to watch and hear, soundtrack was immense.
Lots to think over and soak in, agree about the records clerk exposition bit being forced, again with the flashback over laboured.
Kept me hooked throughout, though. Even if it never surpassed the first one.
Gutted we never got to see the wonders of offworld, but then being stuck on earth is kinda the point.
Do we think it's Oscar-worthy?
It'll be up for Production Design, special effects and Cinematography I imagine - maybe even costumes, but what about Director and Best Film?
Watched it last night, it's really wonderful IMO.
There were a few moments when I felt as if I was in a Art lecture and I should perhaps be taking notes, but it's wonderful all the same.
The story would take about 30 mins to cover in most films, but I never felt bored even though it's knocking on for 3 hours long.
Hope it does well enough for a sequel.
Yup stunnnig cinematography.
Those that rant abou interstellar and the arrrival can surely now see what utter tosh they are?
Saw it again today, this time in 2D. Still amazing.

Nope. Superior films. If not superior film making.
Also, same Director as Arrival. Worth bearing in mind.
Blade Runner only wins out on production design.
They’re really not. Yes I’m aware it’s the same director but a good director can’t make a good film out of everything.
Well INterstellar gets good ratings across the board so I'd suggest your in the minority on that one , Arrival goes better still

Maybe it didn't work for you but they were both incredibly well received and reviewed
though

Well I guess it goes nowhere debating films ...
Arrival is a fabulous film with plenty to go at and a clever denouement. Interstellar, pure space opera - again with content to think about.
Apart from some great cinematography - the latest Blade Runner managed to emulate the first film's po-faced slender logic as if there are some great themes being debated whilst dragging out for an eternity what was a tension-less story.
As for Reynolds it was exactly the same performance as Drive that he phoned in.
I really wanted to enjoy it, and it started off well. But this is one for the fans not the mainstream who decided it wasn't worth the money. Although I could see that coming a mile off.
A shame as Villenueve is a stunning film-maker. Sicario being one of the best of the last few years.
I would like to give a it a second go as a back to back with the original but I fear I wouldn't get through them.

I’m well aware of how well rated they were, I’ve discussed my thoughts on them on other threads so I’ll leave it there.
Sicario did absolutely nothing for me. Interstellar was enjoyable but forgettable. Haven't seen Arrival yet - it's family friendly so it's waiting for a rainy Sunday afternoon.
* if you enjoy Arrival, I’d recommend that you read the short story on which it’s based - “story of your life” by Ted Chiang.
Watched it last sunday, thought it bloody ponderous, and really not impressed with the sound track (was there really one?). Basically it's ok but not great TBH, we definitely walked away quite disappointed overall.. If anything I felt it just a setup for "rise of the replicants".
Maybe I'll enjoy it more the 2nd time round.

Id say that was by design, it felt like it washed over me and allowed me to appreciate the visual aspect and amazing score (not soundtrack) and watch the film
