[Closed] Blackpool Air Show.

The Lanc is now mended, it had been broken for just over a year. We moved from Blackpool earlier this year so won't see the air show, but we do live very close to Coningsby, so cycled over a couple of weeks ago to see the Lanc's first flight this year.

The wife will be there with our little one on Sunday whilst I'm at ardrock! I might get to take her for day 2 on Monday, but the red arrows only perform on the Sunday I believe

Yes, Sunday only. Would have liked to go on the Monday as it may be quieter but we can't miss the Typhoon and the Red Arrows! My eldest didn't stop talking about them for weeks after.

Glad to hear the Lancaster is sorted, my lad missed it on its last tour.

& many other aircraft that used to grace the airshow circuit back in the 80's.

I'm old enough to remember seeing the Red Arrows flying Gnats & watching Lightnings, Phantoms, Buccaneers, Victors, the Mossie!, a four Vulcan scramble at Finningley along with the 1st public display of the Tornado in 1977, 104 Starfighters (The Vikings?) Jaguars...the list is endless.

The younger folk have missed the best years. 😉

I saw the triangular airborne begging bowl fly once, I think it was it's last ever public display at Old Warden. It didn't float my boat at all i'm afraid. Far too noisy. I am sorry for those who miss it but....I much prefer older aircraft, I went to see the Bristol Scout reproduction fly. What a fantastic sight that was.
So for me airshows without the vulcan will be fine.

From my perspective, with my passion for first world war and inter war aircraft, now is the golden age of airshows in my lifetime. As well sathe Bristol Scout in the past few years I have seen three Bristol Fighters in the air at the same time, Two BE 2's, a Sopwith Snipe, an RE8, an Albatross DVa, two Hawker Nimrod's, Hawker Fury, Hawker Demon and Hind together, soon a DH9 a Sopwith camel etc. etc. as a teenager attending airshows in in the 70's, I would never have believed that possible

Where's best to view away from traffic jams after?

Red Arrows sometimes fly in over Rivi in and out and on a clear day you will be able to see it from Southport beach but we are just going to go to Blackpool front and hope for the best.

You could be best parking down south shore somewhere, maybe around Bloomfield Rd and walking in from there. At least you're not too far from getting back on the motorway from that end

If it was a recent display, they'd turned the volume right down to save on wear and tear. Back in the day, they used to do full power, tail-to-audience voice of god passes, you felt it more than heard it...

There is normally plenty space on south shore round Harrowside / Lytham road area then you are straight out along the link road back to the M55.

Don't park on Morrisons or the Retail park as they have time Limits on parking.

It was more than a slight breeze, we went to Liverpool and I reckoned the blustery wind out on the Fylde would add significant difficulty to the pilots' jobs. The M6 was jammed solid with traffic heading for Blackpool only 45 minutes before the start time. Then jammed solid going the other way as we drove back to home near the Preston exit.

An F111 ain't bad either. When I was young, i got blown off my feet at the Woodbourne airshow by one sneaking in low & fast.

I used to work next to Woodbourne & the RNZAF Skyhawks were a common sight. But the Orions were more impressive.

I was a bit disappointed I know the wind caused the battle of Britain planes to cancel. Why have the event the same time as a high tide? just before kick off everyone was cleared off the narrow of walkway between the beach and main prom.
Managed to miss all the traffic parked at Leyland and got the train in 🙂

I also thought that... Why would you plan for a seaside airshow on a day with a high tide?

Was quite a nice selection of displays though and some stunning piloting given the conditions!

With bells the high tide thing, one thing I love about Southport is [s]performing doughnuts[/s] parking on the beach.

I appreciate the Lancaster is a national treasure, but shirley if a bloke can turn up in a squeaky gyrocopter that looks/sounds like he nailed it together in his shed and put on a show then the Lancaster could have done a flyby?

The Lancaster has a 15 kt crosswind limit. It was gusting more than that at Conningsby. The gyrocopter can probably take off into wind on a fooball pitch

and the gyrocopter isnt one of only 2 flying examples left in the world...and isnt 71 years old. 😉

Just surprised it has such a low crosswind limit. Hopefully it will be out at Southport.

The airshow is on the same weekend every year so they can't really help the tides. But the thinking behind it will be that the fancy new promenade is big enough for the crowd whilst the high tide brings the planes closer in.

Walked in yesterday to see the spitfires, enjoyed that but bloody hell, there's some rum 'un's in town

There was also some storms that rolled through lancashire over the weekend, so may have stayed away if they thought they were gonnna get caught in a system enroute, even if the weather at Blackpool was ok.
