We've covered this a fair bit at work. Very scary prospect. So scary in fact, that I daren't watch it.

That's where Benelli M4 will be useful because zombies will be roaming the streets.

This is where doomsday preppers will survive.

Are you ready for such blackout?

😀

Yeah... I'm just wondering which character is going to suffer at the hands of others. Uncomfortable viewing - but good!

I bet coal from the North East will be in demand again ...

As for traveling long distance we have steam train/locomotive here so what's the problem?

Before it even started I was saying to Mrs Removed that the two distinct groups would be those with a weapon and those without. Just like the difference between those at a festival with wellies and those without 😀

A good reason to live in the hills, at least we know all the people in the village and which nutters should die first!! 😯

Where I used to live blackout is a common occurrence in the entire city but I never seen people running amok. People are so used to blackout that there is hardly any panic but just a very warm/hot night swatting mosquito. Normally strong ceiling fans keep mosquito at bay ... there you go. Oh ya ... try running amok and people would not hesitate to exterminate you on the spot and ask question later. 😆

Although this is just a dramatisation I bet it is not far off with the zombie mentality seen recently in London.

*Smug*

Food for a month, rainwater butts, a 20W solar panel, and 200 hours of LED lighting throughout the house. Sadly no facility to watch Breaking Bad once the laptop battery runs flat.

*End Smug*

Seriously, I read a book about a year ago which discussed how easily we could end up in this situation and our just-in-time approach to common resources and I was seriously concerned.

Having said that, if im this situation I'd take the chance in the car which has a 1000 mile range if fuelled and set off to my parents' house in deepest, darkest Devon where they have a similar setup but additional generators.

All renewable energy will come in handy.

If you live life at the very basic then there is not much difference really apart from preparing to shoot zombies.

This is not easy to watch.

Yes, not easy especially most people live an iPhone and iPad lives.

That was terrible.

Only thing i'll take from it is the reminder that the riot footage was real.

All that authoritarian stuff has happened all ready.

Flaperon - guessing you didn't watch it or you'd have seen what happened to the smug guy!!

Really enjoyed that though, some good telly for a Monday night.

So how many people are actually prepped for such an eventuality? I'm assuming the following should be a good start...

Stock of bottled water
Stock of canned foods
Candles and lighting method
Solar charger for any torches etc
Wind up torch and radio
Reinforce the garage windows with bars etc and store all this in there
Spare diesel in jerry cans in the garage
A weapon whether legal or illegal?
Martial arts training
Some kind of veg garden?

I have none of the above but it's making me think!

The Road is my favourite post-apocalyptic film.

Brutal.

I'm going to watch it now.

Crispo - watching it on +1 but not especially bothered because I've been dying to punch him in the face for about 20 minutes...

I really enjoyed the film the road, but since having our daughter I can't stand to watch it. I just can't imagine looking after her when horror is all around, terrifies me.

I can survive if I can get out from the city because I can't eat concrete but I need to move somewhere near the river.

Why did they spend so much time with hemp-man and less time with hospital-girl?

We hate #hempman

We like #hospitalgirl

Guardian Comment article tomorrow morning "what's wrong with hemp man"?

Stupid media.
