blackcircles still the go-to for car tyres?

I check Protyre and Asda Tyres as well. Blackcircles never seems to be that great for what I'm after.

£79 for falkens seems about right.
I go to our our local place because they're just round the corner and it's a resource I definitely want to keep when I can pump up a slow punctured tyre and make it there for a repair before it goes flat again.
I've checked a few times in the past and they're always competitive compared to black circles.
They also have an online booking and search facility on their website so easy to compare.

Occasionally, ATS come up with lower prices if on offer. BC use them for locally anyway for fitting and I trust them not to bugger things up with the wrong torque.

I would give your indy local tyre place a chance to beat them too, you might be surprised.

Worth s look because it's easy to do so but the last 2 sets of tyres I bought were better pierced at ATS and Halfords.

Five minutes on the web should find the best priced tyres in your area so IMO no one place is a "go to".

I used an online one called etyres once... Same sort of thing as black circles... Just a case of shopping around really.

I used BlackCircles for years, always been great. But ATS seem to have more brand specific deals on the go, if that deal works for you then great. Last time round I need x2 Michelin CrossClimates and saved a fortune using ATS. They also do various Blue Light / NHS type discounts if you are able to access these.

Five minutes on the web should find the best priced tyres in your area so IMO no one place is a “go to”.

Also seems to vary by brand and time of year so it depends if you have a specific make/model in mind.

The downside of blackcircles for me was that if you pick the nearest garage with availability you're getting a bit of pot luck whether they do a good job or not.  The last two indies I've used one put stick on weights on that fouled the tie-rod end, the other set the tracking up with the steering wheel pointing a few degrees left.   At least Kwikfit are fairly consistent IME and often the cheapest anyway if you book ahead online.

Doubt you'll get much cheaper than £79.00 / tyre supplied and fitted unless you go for Chinese ditch-finders.

Some Notes have an unusual tyre size so you might be limited.

Go indy, I use my servicing garage. They get what I want, fitted by experienced mechanics and not much more than online (c£2 per tyre). The only problem is that there's no chance of same day

I have used MyTyres in the past, but that was for steel wheels with winters on as a package so didn’t have to find a local fitter. They were the best option at the time. For all other tyres I use our local independent place who always seems to be in the same ballpark as the online ones so more convenient for me

totally depends on tyre and size combos and what each retailer is currently offering in terms of promo codes etc...

Sometimes the ebay promo codes can get you cheaper fitted tyres from blackcircles on ebay with a £1 fitting fee per tyre.

Otherwise BC, Asda, mytyres, ATS, National, Halfords.... whoever has the best promo at the time

Bought two sets of tyres in the past 6 months - National Tyres (aka Halfords) have been great and cheapest for the tyres I wanted. Mobile fitting at home via Halfords bloke. I guess experience will vary depending on the actual fitter's expertise, but no issues here at all.

Rang my usual indie first even tho they're further out but they're too busy and recommended a place in town that they use themselves, said they'd be the same price, so I'm sat here waiting for them now.

Had a mixed bag with the online jobbies and as you said that the Falkens quoted were a decent price I've gone for those.

Tried my local skoda main dealer and they did them for £66

Halfords have been cheapest for me the last couple of years.

They'll probably have a May Bank Holiday code floating around somewhere, or a discount for 2+ tyres

Kwik fit and national/tyre shopper also do free home fitting

Last time I used Kwik fit at home a couple of years ago there was a two tyres minimum requirement.

I changed my tyres recently and Halfords came in cheapest at £146 for 2 Goodyear (they had 10% discount).

Did the usual shopping around, etc...

I just bought my second lot from Asda tyres as they came up cheapest again for the Michelins that I wanted.

You don't get them from Asda obviously they just take your money and direct you to a local tyre fitter.

If you've a tame fitter/mechanic and looking for a specific tyre brand/model I've found Camskill have the best price for just tyres delivered.

If not ring around locally and see who can fit you in at a sensible price inc fitting, a lot will beat online prices if you provide them. The bigger chains sometimes have a cash back schemes too so worth checking.

I got 4 Goodyear 205/55R16s from Protyre last month for £295 all in.

Used to use black circles when they were a new thing but don't even bother checking their prices these days

I need to do this soon and it looks like it's going to be really expensive, stupid tyre size. From my searching so far, Costco are that much cheaper than everybody else even though I'll have to get a membership, it'll be worth it.

There's no go-to place.  There are so many people selling tyres, and so many sizes made that they are buying or reserving stock of a particular size and tyre as it becomes available, and the price will reflect the difference between predicted demand for a tyre/size and what has been sold so far.  This means that everyone is trying to get you to buy whatever they can make the most money on.

The upshot is that Black circles might be cheaper for the tyre you want one day, and Asda tyres the next.  So check them all:

Asda Tyres does offer some quite big discounts but in Asda vouchers, so if you shop there regularly that can work out better.
