"Unfortunately, the computer is so slow that it would take about a million times the age of the universe to successfully mine a Bitcoin block."
Definitely more purpose to the AGC's original use than the particular task it was turned to here. Shout out to BBC's 13 Minutes to the Moon podcast - Ep.05 "The fourth astronaut"

I wonder what it would be at the opposite end of the scale - if you used the Met Office's Cray XC40, for example?

I’ve absolutely no idea what a bitcoin block is, no idea what a hash means, but a quantum computer sounds cool even though I have zero idea what that means either. Can you play mario on it?
I manage a group of scientists involved in researching the devices (qubits) that'll go into these quantum computers. The answer is yes, given time you will be able to play Mario on it, but I've got to be honest it's not high on the list of things that are planned for QC when they become available.
Can you play mario on it?
Yes and no.
Yes and no.
Tips hat.
These quantum/supercomputers are only really decent at playing good games of Chess. On no account should you play them at Global Thermonuclear War.

and all superpositions in between.
