Just waiting delivery of a Transit Custom DCIV SWB to replace both my car and small van. I aim to go full conversion later but for now I will just carry bikes in the rear so looking for inspiration for mounting/fixing solutions that anyones used.

For the majority of my use it will be a single bike so I'm assuming I can just fit that diagonally across the inside of the van with some tie down straps, simple.

When travelling with the family or friends I want to be able to get 3/4 bikes in the back and therefore I'm thinking front wheels out, bikes across the van and use axel mounts. Like the look of the rail type solutions that allow you to move the axel mounts to where you need depending on the bikes etc.

Anyone got any pictures of what they have achieved with a SWB DCIV (crew cab) Custom?

I had a five seater, a nice van to drive and you can easily get five people, five bikes and camping kit in. Front wheels off and I used the tie down loops in the vehicle, small ratchet straps and plenty of pipe lagging to fix the bikes in, locked as well of course.

I fitted tee nuts into the ply floor of my van then bolted unistrut to this and fork mounts on it. It means you can adjust the fork mount widths to suit and can also unbolt the rails easily to leave a flat floor

@marclelliott, I assume that is a LWB to get that much in? Do you have any pictures of the bikes inside?

Low tech option, just use a pallet on the floor jam the wheel in one of the gaps between the planks and a ratchet strap down to the load restraint loops.

Great suggestions thanks.

Not thought of a pallet being used as a bike rack... interesting 🙂
