I am doing a big charity ride on Sunday and my road bike has suddenly started making some very odd noises - can anyone recommend a reliable and efficient shop / mobile engineer who could give it a decent service?

(I would do it myself but I really don't have the time between now and Sunday)!

Cheers.

Don't know the Harrogate Bike shops other than Stif out in Summerbridge. No experience of their service.

If you're willing to travel 20 odd miles. Cyclesense in Tadcaster are one of the few I'd be happy to pay to do servicing. Not sure what their lead times for workshop are.

Well there is the Specialized Concept Store (very expensive) or Chevin Cycles on Ripon Road (never used them so no idea what they are like). Veloheads had a great reputation but I just called them and they said they no longer do bike servicing. 🙁

I've seen this company out on the Stray a few times.

http://dexioncycles.co.uk/

Cant comment on the quality although I did see him 'repairing' a bike one time by just having it turned upside down on the grass.

Chevin Cycles on Ripon Road (never used them so no idea what they are like).

I went in there 2 weeks ago to ask about a bottom bracket that had come loose. They said they were a mechanic down so couldn't do anything for 1 1/2 weeks. They also told me it was loose bearing BB, when its actually a cartridge one.

😯

I have just called Spa Cycles. I have a feeling I will be stabbing wildly in the dark here...

Yeah, pretty time-poor at the moment and don't want to be travelling. Especially to Saltaire as it is a bitch to get to from Harrogate 🙂

The concept store is great, I use them pretty regularly. (You might struggle to get it booked in before Sunday though!)
Chevins, not used that one but used the otley store before the ripon road one opened. No complaints.
Used stif a fair bit too, no problems
There's also the big red bike co on east parade next to the cinema, never used them. Also prologue on cold bath road (road bike especially) never used them but they look to be on the rapha side of the price/bike/kit spectrum. Apparently a good cafe though

Then, of course, there's halfords on knaresborough road...

I've used Chevin Cycles' Otley shop before, no complaints. I imagine Harrogate would be just as good

Like FunkyDunc I'd also recommend Nathan at Saltaire Cycles. But alas 20 miles away.

Used the concept store once and they were great. Bad experience from Chevin has put me off.

As a former bike mechanic, if you're in a jam I can help you out. Based in Leeds on the Harrogate side. May involve replacing your bottom bracket (depending on bike model / bracket type). Difficult to say without seeing it, but it may otherwise be a case of going it some TLC. Send me a photo and spec if you want to get me involved.

I can assess with you on arrival here and give you a good estimate on turn around time. Allow 2 days for any parts that may need to be ordered, unless I have them here, or can be sourced locally for a sensible price.

If it's not to bad i can do it while you wait / pop to the local bar etc...

🙂
