I was in Aberdeen at the weekend and there was this guy going up and down the beach esplanade on a bike / scooter thing that I had never seen before.
It was like a scooter, 24in wheels, no handles. He stood on it sideways like a surf board and powered himself by pushing on a long pole, like a gondola in Venice or punt in Oxford, just without the water.
I thought it looked hard work and daft but he seemed happy enough. I've been googling and can't find it. Does anyone know what he was riding?
Slightly dodgy photo but here he is. He is riding behind a tool station, it is not part of his bike scooter thing!

No idea what it is, but could you not have timed that picture a bit better? 🙂
It was a last minute photo as he came past, I had to get my phone out, fumble and take it before he was gone!
I was also distracted at the time by marvelling at the worlds worst cycle lane! A bike lane separated only by paint that sends cyclists the wrong way against one way vehicle traffic. Crazy stuff in Aberdeen.
Getting in some practise for the world paddle board championships ?
i wanted one of these about 20 years ago, its like a snowboard, on scooter wheels
the front wheel can turn by carving the board like a snowboard
It's a dirt surfer apparently 🙂
like a gondola in Venice or punt in Oxford, just with more two-hatyness.
Fixed it for you.
It's a variation of a mountain board; https://www.neoscooters.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Dirtsurfer_Flexi_Pro_Dirt_Board
You lean to carve rather than relying on the trucks to flex on the conventional 4 wheel type.
Is it a sickly dalek?
So it looks like the punting pole is not how it was originally designed to be used, it should be gravity powered?
