Just built a cupboard in my garage to hide away all our household crap (I run a workshop from my garage), and I wanted to put a bike-related component on the door as a handle:

I've seen crank arms used before, but I was wondering what else might be an option - any ideas / inspo?

Ta!

As in a handle to pull the sliding door open?

Old frame with a longish head tube, cut the top and down tubes about 3-4" behind the head tube, cuts parallel to the head tube. So it makes this kind of handle, but with the head tube as the vertical bit you hold.

Crank arm, old SPDs, brake levers, stem, bar ends, saddle

Depends on if the handle needs to rotate or just be pulled...

When there was a Mud dock in  Exeter they used to have a fork cut in half on a set of glass double doors iirc....

Along the lines of this

Fix a shelf above the door, parallel with the runner.

Attach a rear bike wheel with tyre and sprocket/cassette to the door so that the tyre is pressing on the underside of the shelf.

Attach old crank and and chainwheel to door at convenient height.

Attach chain between sprocket and chainwheel.

Attach pedal spindle to crank.

Turn crank to open/close the door

Love how that ^^ was printed, drawn on, then scanned!

I knew some good ideas would come from here - keep going...

Oh, and yes, just a sliding door.

A brake disc that looks like it's gone flying and embedded in the door. Just a little bit sticking out (think school protractor size) otherwise it'll be too wobbly.

Alternatively the setup above would work with the wheel running on the floor.

A rear cassette screwed backwards (granny-gear outermost) with some old chain wrapped around it to 'blunt' the sharp teeth and protect the fingertips.

Bottle cage with bottle, just screw it on, no angle grinder required!

I've got the head tube (plus a couple of inches of top and down tubes) of an old broken Galaxy touring frame welded to a plate and bolted to my garage door. My other half didn't get the joke when I referred to it as the Dawes handle.
