Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the Singletrack community. Apologies if this question has been asked at some stage but good to get up to date info 🙂

I'm looking to get a bike sent by a private buyer. We are both apprehensive about sending it due to bad experiences with companies that say they are bike couriers, but infact will just use local freight companies that have no car for the contents of the box...the last time I used one, the bike turned up at the buyers place damaged :/

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Will

Paisley Freight. They have a dedicated bike service. Make sure you add the cover level of insurance. Used them loads of times, never had an issue.

Hi Will,

Welcome. Have used Paisley freight before. Just ensure you stick to the dimensions. There was a thread recently on the same topic. All the best

I would avoid Paidley Freight, and sister company bikeeivery.co.uk like the plague, ended up taking them court over failed collections
.
Last bike I bought the guy sent it by Parcel Force and they were fine...

Thanks for the response (and welcome guys)

Funnily enough it was Paisley Freight who had done a good job previously but the last bike arrived mangled. It's not actually one company doing the transit but lots of regional ones

I appreciate the response all the same

@Andrew...how much was your Parcel Force option?

I'm not sure. He charged me £30 for shipping but how much he handed over to them I have no idea!
Looking at how it arrived he must have spent at least a tenner on bubble wrap!

Thanks for that Andrew. Lots of bubble wrap essential!

I bought a couple of those foam tubes from screwfix and wrapped the tubes in them if it helps

I've posted a few bikes over the last 2-3 months and Parcel Force have been great. Seem to also have a permanent 14% discount code. This month's is FE21.

Used paisley freight twice in last month, good service both times.

The dimensions they state are a standard bike box ( ATB least it was the same size as my cotic box) but parcel force dimensions were a bit smaller.

My main advice is to use a proper bike box, leave the rear wheel on, make sure the fork dropouts are protected and  that nothing on the bike can knock against another part e.g handlebars against top tube.

Oh, bike insurance is virtually useless for damage. I think parcel force specifically exclude bikes from their damage  coverage now

I've used Paisley Freight a couple of times, first was OK but second not so good when using one of their paper thin boxes. Rear derailleur was damaged and as there weren't pictures of every second of travel (including inside the box!) the insurance was void.

The take away from that is to use a proper bike box and take photos at both ends.
