Hi, looking for recommendations for bike insurance. I was with M&S with our house insurance but it’s too dear now.

I use Barclays home insurance, but only the bike element (not the other contents). I had to do this to cover the more expensive bikes after Co-Op introduced limits.

Bike only? Or mixed in with home insurance also a possibility?

I was with Nationwide (on home insurance) for ages, they were good and had one claim with them for around £700 which was very smooth and easy. Far too expensive now though, in the latest renewal this time I've gone with Admiral who have a similar bike option in the policy including away from home cover, no real experience with them yet though.

What's the value of the bikes? Some insurers only go up to 5k or something, or have a per-bike limit, etc.

Aviva here, recall it was an extra £30-£40 quid for the year for insuring a bike worth more then £1k, bikes under £1k covered as standard with no bike limit.

The Barclays one was about £5k max per bike but unlimited. The best bike is a top end road bike from 35 years ago, custom built and to get a similar hand built bike £5k might cover it.  The rest are up to £2k-£2.5k. The bike only element is about £9 a month. The home contents is much more but they put some restrictions - e.g. wouldn't cover enough if the garage was cleaned out.
