Snowcard

Might as well stick my question here.... For others who reply snowcard, and are doing lift assisted trails, eg morzine, are you going Max Adventure or Extreme Adventure?

Snowcard here for Les Arcs in a few weeks. I'm an 'Extreme Adventurer' apparently (back country enduro riding).

I use Snowcars as they cover my bikes as well as me. Luckily I have no idea how good they are if you need to claim.

For the Mega I used whatever the top level was called, for a 24hr race it's the next one down.

It's odd that a 24hr race, in a confined area with medics on site, is deemed more risky than heading off into the outback on your own for a month🤷

Just been through something similar and went with Yellow Jersey. Seem to remember it was Snowcard I used last time...

Out of interest I've just put a quote through Snowcard (didn't even bother shopping around with Yellow Jersey - recommendation and they were what I thought was a decent price so decided to just buy the policy) and its basically the same price (couple of quid in it). Think they're both underwritten by Allianz...

I suspect the fact it is a race. Human nature to cut safety margins thinner in a race with medics compared to riding off road somewhere without a phone signal where if you broke a leg you might be lying around for hours or days for someone to find you.

I've used Yellow Jersey the last couple of years, fortunately not had to use them but I know of people that have and have apparently been excellent.

I'll be using them this year as well.

I don't have a specific sports insurance, I just have a personal accidents insurance that covers everything from slipping on the soap in the shower to extreme skiing, the only exclusion is airborn sports such as hang gliding. It covers every country I'd get a visa to. About 150e a year from Allianz. I pay for one for my son too even though he's an independant adult.

@edulator That sounds like a bargain. Does it just cover the medical treatment of the injury sustained or does it cover getting you rescued as well?

It covers the really important stuff, the long term consequences. If you end up disabled it can cost hundreds of thousands to millions in treatment, adapting your home, carers and loss of earnings. That's what it covers. I don't insure for rescue or immediate medial costs, that's small change. You choose a level of handicap at which it kicks in and the premium depends on that.

Ah, ok thanks.

I'm basically just after a way to get rescued and then get home still alive. I'm not sure they are small change, helicopter rescue at the Megavalanche for example is €100k. And that's three or four guys with one helicopter, no search parties required for insurance

A mate in my club was helicoptered out of the Roc d'Azur. It cost him 0e because getting rescued by the state is free. In a ski resort the rescue is private and will cost a few hundred euros. Could you provide a link to a serious site for the £100 000 please.

It was on the Megavalanche entry forms, one of the requirements was €100k of helicopter rescue cover

Yeah, but that's not what helicopter rescue costs, it's just a figure plucked out of fresh air by the event organisers to cover their arses. You need £10 000 000 of third party insurance cover to be able to ride with Heart of England Cycling club as a guest for example - and that's on public roads in the UK.

I bought a Yellow Jersey policy the other day. Cheaper than anything else for similar cover. A *lot* cheaper than snow card.

Used to use Insure&Go as they were very good about paying up for a cancelled holiday after I injured myself mtbing. However they no longer cover holidays where MTB is the main activity/purpose of the trip, so no good for a Morzine trip.

I noticed some companies do not offer Personal Liability.

Insure&Go directed me towards BIBA who put me in to much with Just Travel, though needed to know the maximum elevation I would be mtbing at!

I know others use Yellow Jersey.

Correction, I have cancelled Just Travel insurance for mtbing as awful policy wording reads as though you have to be with an experienced or SQEP'd guide or instructor. I rang them today to clarify and in the discussion they appeared to change their stance and said mtbing had to be less than 50% of the holiday ie not the main purpose of the holiday, because of the issue with Insure&Go I was sure I had checked that 🤔

So as above Yellow Jersey, but premium increase for over 60's 🤷‍♂️
