Our first Ocado experience was yesterday, after we took advantage of £20 off the recieve the weekly shop the day we returned from Holiday.

Not only is the delivery only 49p, the list that came with it was sorted into type/use by date order. All the food was in colour coded bags (freezer, fridge, cupboard) which the helpful chap brought right to the door. Also the fruit and veg seemed to be good quality and not bruised etc. It all comes with a voucher for money off your next shop is they exceed tescos prices.

Overall very impressed, and for 49p - cheaper than it would cost us to drive to the local Sainsburys - and for the convienience of hourly bookings we may well use them again.

We use Ocado all the time...they are really rather good (IME). I remember their driver turning up early in the middle of baby deadly's feed and me answering the door a bit all-over-the-place. He brought the shopping right into the house for me and couldn't have been nicer - to be fair, all their drivers are pretty decent.

It's worth noting that it's not a Waitrose business, and I expect the selection of Waitrose products will decrease after the big investment by Morrisons. In any case, we've found Ocado's own label of fresh produce to be excellent quality and value for money, as is their own label other stuff, pasta, rice, etc.

Tried Tesco a few times then Ocado. Whole world of difference in the attitude of the delivery guys, will be sticking with Ocado from now on 🙂

we use ocado ever since the little man arrived, nearly nine months of use and not a bad word to say about the service.

ocado will still continue to deliver waitrose items. ocado are simply acting as a conduit for morrisons online delivery service.

This too - my wife did comment about the time saving with out 2 kids and jobs involved. We even got a text the day before telling us the drivers name, coulor and reg of the delivery vehicle. All the produce seems great quality.

I don't think anything will change anytime soon, but this was from the original report when Morrisons put the money in.

Waitrose Worry
Ocado said its current contractual agreement with Waitrose would "remain unaffected by these arrangements" and that customers would experience "no change to the service" as a result of the deal.

It maintained that there was no exclusivity clause in the Waitrose agreement preventing it from offering services to rival supermarkets.

Ocado said it would continue to deliver Waitrose food from the Dordon centre.

But in a statement Waitrose said: "We have asked to see the detail of the deal and the operating arrangements. Meanwhile, we have instructed lawyers so that we can get a clear and unequivocal view of the contract and examine what might constitute a breach."

In the Morrisons agreement there is a "restrictive covenant" preventing Ocado from providing a similar online grocery service to more than one competitor to Morrisons at any one time.

Waitrose signed a deal with Ocado in 2000 and now serves up to 40,000 online shoppers a week.

Ocado's shares closed 36% higher. Its shares have risen 149% over the past year.

I can't see Ocado managing to deliver two competing supermarkets' shopping from its existing DCs. There are conflicts of interest all over the place for the supermarkets. I'm not saying it won't happen, just that I can't see Waitrose taking a back seat to Morrisons. AFAIK, Ocado still has the inside-the-M25 deal for Waitrose - so I'd expect Waitrose to be sorting out something in the background - I would if I was them.

We are on a contract with Occado - cost us very little up front for a years free deliveries. Service is always excellent - the only one who will always carry the shopping into the kitchen, food quality is excellent, prices now fairly close to the others

i was involved in the initial setting up of tesco systems and part of that was aquiring stakes in existing businesses and using the parts of thier technology/ models that suited leaving the existing business to carry on as previously and this i believe is the same model ocado/ morrisons will utlise. leaving the existing business as is and developing a whole new business utilising its best bits.

either way no matter how you measure it none of these food delivery projects has ever or will ever make a profit.

the capital costs and running costs are just too high. all they will ever be are developers/maintainers of market share

Can't see it myself. If Waitrose were already going through the contracts looking for a breach...

there has long been speculation that waitrose/ ocado may be in need of relationship counselling..

As well as having the cheeriest delivery drivers Ocado also give us a free bottle of wine on our 'anniversary' each year we've been with them. It's also worth liking their page on the dreaded Facebook as they sometimes have coded to get free stuff in your next order (I recently got £20 worth of lovely weekendy hamper thingy).

I used to use Ocado for every weekly shop, but it's not available in Scotland so had to stop 🙁

As above, can't fault the service or drivers at all. I wish they'd start operating up here.

how much does it cost? lots? roll down to your local ALDI/LIDL on your bike, fill up your panniers. You will buy a wealth of quality goods and save a shitload of cash. Just tell the neigbours that "brands" are so last year and good stuff tastes good no matter what it's called. You will not be alone in downgrading, bypassing scum like ASDA/TESCO and your middle class morality will be kept intact.

49p.

And unfortunately for me that while me and my wife are working in between getting the kids to/from nursery and school, ams thier weekend activities, fitting a weekly shop for 4 into panniers and finding time to ride back and forth on a bike isn't easy.

I hope you see the point here.

ASDA may be £3 more for delivery but my main monthly shop is about £50 cheaper doing it online with them (use money supermarket.com as it compares them all as you go and has a nicer interface than most of the supermarkets own sites)

Ocado is what the inetrnet is for. Haven't had to waste a part of my precious weekend in a supermarket for ages now.

+1 for comments above. Delivery chaps don't even grumble about our long and steep path.

Likewise. Asda for the bulk shop, Lidl for fresh stuff. No difference in quality from Waitrose really, though as a veggie I can only vouch for lentils and hair shirts of course.
