My daughter is an avid gamer with both an Xbox series X and a PS5. She will probably add a glitzy gaming pc too in the near future.
She is looking for a monitor with the following attributes:-
Around 42" screen
4k OLED @120Hz refresh rate
G-sync
HDR
VRR/V-sync
Maximum latency 1ms
Pixel refresh to prevent screen burn
Is there anyone with any recommendations or observations? She really likes the LG C2, but she doesnt want the tv component or the fixed refresh rate of this device.
Thanks
Ian
Asus PG42UQ , that's not a cheap spec to achieve though!
If you want a 42" OLED then the LG TV is about all you have as choice.
fixed refresh rate of this device.
Erm... VRR. Variable refresh rate. So long as you get an OLED with hdmi 2.1 and VRR it won't have a fixed refresh rate.
Also, v-sync isn't a feature of a monitor or TV, it's when a GPU syncs the refresh rate of the output to the monitor/TV, ie 60hz/FPS.
Haha - tbh I didn't know of any OLED monitors in the wild as yet, but they are appearing as per the Asus above.
Although personally I'd go with an OLED TV, they're bloody brilliant and you get all the smart TV stuff for watching Netflix/Disney in glorious 4k/UHD HDR as well as VRR, 120hz, black blacks etc.
I've got a PS5 hooked up to a Sony Bravia 55" OLED and it's fantastic.
Not sure I'd really get hung up on the OLED thing for pure gaming monitor use, there's a few non-OLED options like the Acer Predator.
I'm a fan of OLED (my TV is one) but it wouldn't be a must-have for a gaming monitor, burn-in and lack of brightness are two downsides that come to mind
As above, the LGC2 telly is probably the one to go for if you need the size and must have 4k and OLED.
Do bear in mind though you need a really high end PC to run 4k properly.
A hig spec 1440p IPS monitor will be a better shout, 1440p is a lot easier on the PC hardware.
I'd go for something like this... 32" Dell I've got the 27" version and love it, as well as an LG C2 42.
The LG I use more as a TV and occasional couch gaming, but I prefer the Dell gaming monitor for actual gaming... it's just better somehow.
I’ve been very impressed with my Gigabyte M32U - does 120hz ps5 gaming and wasn’t horrifically expensive.
Not sure what they do in 40+ inch monitors, but worth looking at the brand.
Can I ask what is special about a gaming monitor.
The last games I played were legacy of Kain on the PlayStation and Warcraft 2. I bought world of Warcraft but my ex persuaded me to flog it as her brother was pretty much addicted to it.
I did quite like minesweeper.
I'm 41 so probably still in the target demographic.
I'm assuming that the new monitor is for all three systems?
@cougar yes it will be for the current gen xbox and ps5 consoles and able to be fully functiinal for a pc in the future. Quite what spec that will be i dont know. She does like her performance, so something like a 3070/80 graphics card isnt out of the question.

I found rtings.com a handy site for reviews on monitors/TV's when I was shopping for a 4K 32" monitor last year.
