I always say I gave up cycling in 2016, that's when I last raced and said I'll have a bit of a rest.
Pretty well zilch since then
Helped my mate at the start of lock down and cycled for a few weeks.
Then moved to Brighton March 2020 and have ridden twice, 38 miles in total.
Plan to start again tomorrow?
Bought a brand new bike in 2019 hoping that might get me started, but I swear to God I've never ever been on it.
Kicking myself as I knew I was coming here, and would have bought an Mtb as it seems pretty big around these parts.
That's right, I don't own an mtb or any off road cycle.
Looking for locals that are patient to show me around, and get me fit again.
Ha! I got Covid in April last year and have ridden less than 30 miles since then due to insane fatigue. Have a brand new Genesis Fugio that has covered 25 of those 30 miles. Had a big plan to get fit this year and purchase a new MTB. Caught Covid again three weeks ago and am back to needing a rest (and having nosebleeds) after taking a shower. If it is like last time and it feels like it, I’m looking at six months before I start to feel vaguely normal. Yay!
Debilitating injury in 2016 has seen me ride much less and most often not at all, but it has been more than 38 miles just from doing the local shop by bike. MTBing is moribund though. Hardtail giving up the ghost also hasn’t helped.
Best wishes for all of you ride-challenged. ♿️👍🏼
You'll be fine, you wont have forgotten how to do it, it's like riding a bike...

I've just been on my first ride since December 27th.
It's bloody brilliant.
Give it a go.
@oldgit .. you prob know I’m just down the road in Worthing... where about in Brighton are you?
I’ve a few MTBs you can borrow if you want? and an E bike (it’s for my son/GF..so if you’re short it’d fit you....). Welcome to borrow the Ebike and join me for a ride at any time!!

I stopped riding in 2015. Recently got my mtb rebuilt and did two rides the other week. Work and house move have got in the way since, but I've got a gravel bike arriving tomorrow and my girlfriend has an ebike coming on Sunday. Planning loads of little adventures around our local area, can't believe that I've left it so long....I love riding even though I'm absolutely shite!
@DrP I'm Old Portslade village way. And thanks for the offer, I'm kind to bikes so maybe I'll take you up on that.
I saw someone on a singlespeed On-One Inbred on the Downs near Mile Oak farm, God that brought back memories.
Do you know I thought I might ace this not riding thing having not swung a leg over a bike since early December and a general absence of decent rides last year. Oh how wrong I was, Covid twice does not sound nice at all.
No appetite for riding off road in the current "local" shit fest but I have got a new gravel bike that needs an initial outing before it leaves me for a better owner who will actually take it for a dirty little excursion in a secluded spot.
@oldgit there's some nice off road down your way, it's been a long while since I got that far east (I'm nearer the other end of the SDW) but if you can beg or borrow a (geared) bike you should have a nice time out there.
If you're on Facebook join Sussex mtb classifieds for 2nd hand bike stuff and Brighton mtb for hooking up with riders. In normal times there's a group ride every Thursday evening in Stanmer park. Mellow singletrack mainly.
I've done about 6 rides in 4 years! 🙂
out Monday and last night after a lay off since 6th December, OMG, I am so fat and slow and unfit... 🙁
People on here ride bikes? 🙂
Both my bikes went in to storage in July just before we moved house. Road bike is back in the garage now, buried beneath pile of stuff. MTB is in my Dad's garage. Hopefully the house will be in an organised state enough that I can think getting back out on some form of bike in late spring.
8 days ago I got a direct drive smart trainer. Over the last 8 days I’ve ridden more than I have done in the last 2, maybe 3 years combined. My fitness over the last 10 years has nosedived to being non-existent. Time put that right so I can enjoy riding my bikes again
Rode once in August 2019, Pooley Bridge to Lowther Castle and back. Rode Again in August 2020, short loop around Pooley Bridge. September 2020, rode to the orthodentist and back with my son, 18 miles round trip.
Must try harder...
I've been very sporadic and most of my riding has been on the turbo. Only one road ride in 2019 and a couple in 2018 and a couple in 2017 with the occasional Zwift session.
Wasn't meant to be like that, even joined Audax a couple of times with a plant do some decent rides but illness and major surgery put pay to it all.
This year though I've done over 600km on the turbo already and assuming the weather is OK this weekend I've got a nice 50km ride planned out. Fingers crossed it happens. I have new tubes and tyres on the way. My rear wheel is rebuilt and we should be good to go 🙂
