Some kind of design flaw, I think that's the second one today. Should've stuck to burning coal.

Thats the windfarm just up from West Kilbride. Would have got a good view of it from the Dalry Moor road.

And a brilliant tail wind up the climb !

Slight technical hitch with feathering the blades perhaps ?

If it's facing the wrong way, wouldn't that have an adverse effect on the mechanism?
I thought that they stopped them spinning in windy conditions.

The torygraph in 'we don't like renewable energy' shocker.

Gearboxes ,the achilles heal of most large wind turbines

Apparently the brake failed so it could just freewheel.

Quite amusing really, as we just did a uni assignment on designing a hurricane-proof wind turbine.

Boilers that freeze, wind turbines that don't work in the wind. Madness.

Boilers dont usually freeze, its the condensate that runs off from them that freezes, and easy to remedy, just fit some pipe insulation to the exterior pipe.

So if the brake failed they turned it so the blades were less effective??

When it got really windy earlier in the year (although not on today's scale) I went with a mate up to Scoutmoor windfarm after watching this vid:

(Not a good idea)...
The speed of the blade tips up-close was genuinely awesome....but we were both too scared to stand directly underneath them in case something like this 🙄 happened....or we got sucked up into it or suchlike!

Should they get Rolls Royce to design a proper turbine?

Like this one ... 😆

Trent 1000 ... think it can spin 5 times the speed of sound.

I bet for £2 Million RR can design a scale down version of that ...
