In true numpty style I lost my phone after last Saturday's ride. I've been back to the location three times and can't find it after hours of searching using find my Iphone.
It was an Iphone 6s and did everything I needed a phone to do. I'm on a sim only deal as I usually use my son's old phone when he upgrades.
I don't need the latest shiny Iphone and noticed some older refurbed Iphones for less than £200 on Ebay. Are there any outlets to be trusted more than others?
iPhone SE (same inner in a smaller case) is only £239 at John Lewis (vs 6s at £329) with a two year guarantee. I can't imagine that an eBay seller will be much help in a month, let alone a year. The battery is what seems to fail in phones these days - no real way of telling that a refurb iphone from ebay has had one...

I bought my last SE from John Lewis and will get my next handset there as well.
I have used handtec for my last 3 phones.
Ok not getting the latest and greatest phones (normally the previous iteration) but compared to getting the contract version it has normally saved me about £100+ over the same time frame. Only difference is you have to buy the phone up front so it is a single hit rather than spread out
SE is £199 at giffgaff, although if not a customer already, you’ll be obliged to add a £10 SIM, although phone not locked to O2.
Same guts at 6S.
Gifgaf have been selling 5SE's at around £200 too - you get a gifgaf sim with it but the phones are unlocked so you can use with anyone
(beaten by 30s)
Thanks for handtec link some good prices on there, I always go SIM only its cheaper but as you say, not the latest model.
I will probably never not use CEX again. If you're happy with last seasons model, you can get something very decent for about £120. I've had a Z5 compact for over a year nowadays it's awesome and came like new (graded B for condition on their site). Given how many phones I break it's really not worth looking at anything new.
Worth noting that the SE has been discontinued so if you want one get it from JL now as it will be 6 and above very soon

£20 for a new one in an Apple store....
SE Discontinued? Its an upgrade from a 6 (6S inards) and I thought Apple were carrying on with it for now
We was discontinued start of this month I think. Not available in apple store any more. Internet is confusing re the availability
makes sense as it was the only smaller screen so they can eliminate a stock requirement
I've just put my excellent condition iphone6s on ebay, don't want much for it...
I will probably never not use CEX again.
Interesting, I was looking in their shop window yesterday, thinking - who would buy anything from here?, as it appeared that everything could be bought cheaper new elsewhere.
As above, buy an SE new, it’s end of life but won’t be obsolete for ages. Nice bit of kit too.
I personally wouldn’t buy a referb from eBay, it’ll look nice with a new screen / back but they’re often after-market and the build quality is poor, they crack alarmingly easily.
Snap up an SE while they are cheap and available in good condition. Though surely there will be another small iPhone coming along some time.
Xiaomi MI A1 new, £130 or there abouts.
This site sell refurbs, I've bought a few things from them after a recommendation (including my son's Samsung) -

I bought an A grade Pixel2 from CEX, immaculate condition, all the original packaging, and £200 cheaper than the price of a new one.
CEX? Bought my 6S from them when my Samsung S7Edge gave up the ghost. Needed a phone quick, fancied trying iOS so scored a 32gb 6S for £285. This is £50 to £100 more than you can get them on ebay but you get a two year warranty so worth it (?), is for me, but then again I've never tried the warranty, according to the dudes they just swap the phone if a hardware problem, obvs. not for screen break.
Just pick a cheap contract through money supermarket. By the time you’ve bought the handset plus two years worth of credit/data, the c£20 a month for a new (older) model iPhone might work out cheaper.
