You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
as per the title. don't need a super duper expensive one, just a good priced capable one...
Thanks
Cheapest one you can find as they make no difference.
They is digital, all the fancy ones are just hyped up, as said above cheapest will do
Pound land or home bargains.
Just make sure you connect it up the right way round. 😉
Tesco. The value branded one is the high speed jobbie - £5 for 0.75M or £8 for 2M.

£1.28 delivered. It works fine, you cannot argue with that!

I usually go one up from the cheapest.
The signal will be no different, but the connectors should be slightly better made.
It's been proven that the expensive ones are a ripoff. Last one I bought for my Cambridge DVD99 was from the poundshop in town. No way was I paying £20 from Richer Sounds.
Agreed - people who buy expensive ones deserve to have their money taken from them.
Ignore those who say cheap is best. You can hear the difference on my test system (especially on track 4 of Brothers in Arms) with my directional leads.
get down to tesco and get a value one or the asda cheapo, deal done unless you cable route is over 3 miles
Cup of Tea anyone?
As others have said, its digital so it don't make no difference sillys.
My HDMI leads are what came in the box or from ASDA.
Analogue speaker cables on the other hand...
speaker cables don't matter nearly as much as interconnects due to the amount of juice going through them
as above, unless you are routing the cable over the Pennines, cheap is OK.
Lidl - £3.99
Let the bloke in Audio-T sell me one for £15 (with my new telly) and I can't remember which was which. Certainly can't tell when they're plugged in.
Brothers in Arms 😆 are you my Dad?
You may scorn Dez, and the rest of you naysayers. But I am talking hi end reference system here, I wouldn't connect it with anything other than directional leads (with contacts of at least 3000). I could tell the difference on pretty much any Vangelis track as well (if Dire Straits are a bit too 'real' for you)
Ah, but did you lay your high-end uni-directional cables in the exact calibrated North-South orientation to prevent fluctuations in the earth's magnetic field affecting the picture?
I can't stand listening to Tubular Bells if my cables have even an inch of westerly bias.
I have mine coated. It's an option in some specialist shops (or you can find the details in the back of the hi-fi magazines). Worth the extra few quid knowing that your music sounds as good at ten o clock as it does at nine!

You can get directional HDMI leads?
gold plated im sure makes no difference between 720/1080
the guy in richer sounds tried to convince me i should spend 30 quid on a cable or my 500quid tv wouldnt work properly
anyway gold plated even...

Yep. Twice one way, once the other. It creates a triple layer effect which enhances the bottom end.
I swear on one of my CDs you can hear the flute players jacket sleeve scrape against itself as he moves his arm.
You can get directional HDMI leads?
Yep, all the electrons are forced to march in a particular direction. Any wanderers are shot for dissent.
An orderly cable is a happy cable, and everyone knows that a happy cable gives you the bestest picture. Go home tonight and cuddle yours and you'll see the improvement 🙂
The crappier the cable the worse the signal gets over longer distance and this is often worse for a digital signal as it has to carry other data such as clock reference so your equipment will talk to each other.
If its a short cable then cheap "should" be fine.
does anyone else lube their hdmi and audio cables? i've been using gt85 but people keep banging on about it not being a proper lubricant, should i switch to something like 'squirt' as i'll not be getting them wet i hope..?
the guy in richer sounds tried to convince me i should spend 30 quid on a cable or my 500quid tv wouldnt work properly
to be fair, i just bought a load of stuff from RS for different rooms and needed a few HDMI cables, plus and optical one for audio for a projector, and the salesman told me under his breath that I'd be better off popping to Maplin round the corner. Thought that was pretty decent of him.
Short = Cheap
Long = Not much more.
I paid £17 for a 15m cable for my projector, which I though was reasonable. Performance has been flawless.
So about £1/m looks reasonable on my experience.
Get a £2.00 one off ebay, really.
Cable stuff is voodoo proper rubbish. the only thing that makes an appreciable difference is stuff like Goertz cable that has weird electrical properties digital signals like HDMI are even less in need of money spending on them.
Is there any reason we're still discussing this when it was answered a fortnight ago? Did we get a (now deleted) spammer?
You've got to love the basic weirdness of an expensive directional lead that's running an AC signal.
Have a look at this ----> http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/hdmi-cables-worth-spending-a-bit-extra
spam indeed, please come and enjoy the wonders of mountain biking in bali.
If you've got a tool station store near you, they do 3m ones for about a fiver, seem to be better constructed than some of the really cheap ones I've seen.
I'd be better off popping to Maplin round the corner. Thought that was pretty decent of him.
There is ALWAYS a Maplin round the corner from any Richer Sounds. It's like nettles and dock leaves
It definitely pays to spend a bit more on cables.
I've now connected my new TV using XTR cables. MUCH better signal than I got with the bog-standard Deore ones.
I swear on one of my CDs you can hear the flute players jacket sleeve scrape against itself as he moves his arm.
There are songs on my iPhone where I can clearly hear the sound of the singers lips open just before she sings a note. Ripped at 320Kb, played through $100 Shure SE215's. Don't need to spend vast amounts to hear subtle details in recorded music.

Made me laugh, anyway. 😆
