Appols if been done recently.
With long periods of being inside on the horizon, which streaming service is going to be best for films/documentaries, and a 10yr old?
Currently have a basic Sky package, Amazon Prime.
Is there anything we are missing by not having Netflix ? Considering their UHD package as we speak, but fully aware it could just be the same rubbish ie no real decent UHD content ?
Thanks
Upgraded to Netflix UHD recently. Not a great deal of content on there that's UHD/4k. In fact I'll downgrade now, you've reminded me.
Edit: Should add that content is good. We've had it about 18 months and we trialled both Amazon Prime and Netflix. At the time Netflix came out on top. However I guess it's a moving target, quite like the look of Nazi hunters on Prime now. Also Disney+ looks ok. Can't really justify the cost of all three streaming services plus the TV licence though.
Are you sure? A lot of the new TV is Dolby Vision.
Yeah, so sure I just downgraded my account 🙂
Is there anything you’re missing by not having Netflix? Absolutely loads. For all the content on Netflix it’s ridiculously cheap.
My girls (16 & 13) watch nowt else.
If you’re into your documentaries then there’s absolutely stacks of decent ones on there. Start with the Vietnam War. Fascinating as it goes into so much detail
Loads of decent drama too. Loving the new series of Better Call Saul.
Miles better than Amazon Prime
Got Prime here and Netflix. I'd quite happily bin Prime, even Prime delivery is a bit crap these days for me. Pre virus I mean.
Id go for Netflix.
There are "other methods" but I'm not going there.
I genuinely can’t remember last time I watched something on Netflix that wasn’t 4K HDR. Maybe because I don’t use Netflix for watching films.
Loads of decent drama too. Loving the new series of Better Call Saul.
It's fantastic.
No idea where it's going.
Also big shout out for Curb 10 on NowTV, this series has been proper laugh out loud.
Ozark this week I think.
Amazon Prime and Netflix via a firestick is used a lot more than the Sky remote these days. The only thing that is stopping Sky getting binned off is current events.
Depends how much you're into American shows. Prime maybe has better film content. Does have The Expanse and Picard though. HD/4K doesn't cost extra for Prime content. 4K streams seem better quality on a ain HD TV also.
Brit shows there's Britbox but sounds like many issues with that.
Amazon Fire stick gets you access to each including Netflix but have to pay for each service. There are various other services on it too plus the free ones.
Note, Netflix have cut their bandwidth across Europe and asking people to use lower quality streams in preference due to the virus. Their infrastructure is likely only a fraction of Amazon's.
Slight thread hijack, does anyone know if you can access Disney + via a VPN? I live in Norway and the kids have been badgering me for Disney and it’s not due to launch here for some time but we use a VPN to access UK tv anyway. Cheers all!
IMHO... Netflix has loads more to offer than Prime. I wouldn’t pay for Prime it if it was not linked to the delivery pass.
If I could only have one, it would be Netflix. But I also use NowTV, and couldn’t agree with
rone
more, Curb is outstanding. Pretty much worth the £7 a month on its own.
My 10 and 12 YOs also love MacGyver and Magnum remakes on NowTV, but struggle to find much else consistently good (other than Chernobyl and Modern Family).
Get Netflix!
PS More4 / All4 worth a look. Regularly impressed with their back catalogue. And it’s free!
I have Sky Q, Prime & Netflix (and shortly Disney+).
Netflix probably has the best UHD content, not a lot of decent UHD films but quite a few good series. Overall catalogue is pretty strong to.
Sky Q has a lot of film content in UHD but still a lot of gaps (inc. recent films). Most diverse content overall (but a lot of that you can get from free sources - I mostly still pay for Sky Q for the convenience factor).
Prime - a bit hit & miss, quite a few good series in UHD but not many films (free ones anyway). Lots of weird content as well (the sort of 1-2 hour documentaries that probably would only ever be on YouTube otherwise)
Netflix & Prime support HDR (although not all the UHD content on them is also HDR), Sky Q doesn't support HDR. HDR is a much more noticeable improvement on picture quality than going from HD to UHD (for me at least).
Prefer Prime to Netflix, but still got both (and Now TV!) Some decent content on all, and combined still WAY cheaper than even basic Sky sub.
