Hi,

Apart ST Classified, where are you selling bikes successfully at the moment apart from EBay .  I’d rather not pay the fees .  Facebook has loads of ‘bikes for sale’ pages and I want to sell it and not just be  be asked 1000’s of stupid questions by time wasters.  Pinkbike?

thanks

Stu

Terrible time to sell a bike! But Facebook marketplace is sadly probably the best place to do it, factor in time wasters and be up front that you won't entertain giving a refund for anything whatsoever because people will try it on.

I know you don’t want the fees but Ebay is a really good option if it doesn’t sell to a STW member! I’ve sold one bike on here and several on eBay, including a Kona Process 24 for really strong money last week, it only took a week to sell too and it’s pretty much hassle free 🙂

I would much rather pay a fee than deal with the idiots on Facepalm.

This ^^.
If you haven't sold anything for a while, try putting a few low-value items on to reactivate your account then they'll begin sending you 80% off fees offers, usually once a fortnight.

I sold my old Cove MTB on there a couple of months ago, no hassles at all. Admittedly it didn't get an amazing value but it fell into that weird gap of not being old enough to be truly retro and was more just obsolete!

FB marketplace. Just don't feel obligated to be polite and just ignore the obvious Muppets and low ballers. Block anyone who is a dick. Genuine buyers ask good questions and are easy to spot.

Do not respond to anyone whose profile pic is them sitting on a pitbike flipping the bird while wearing tracksuit and ski mask. They don't need to know your address.

Just to give you an idea of the market, a couple of weeks back, on Facebook, I purchased Jnr a carbon framed gravel bike with hydraulic brakes, hardly ridden in almost new condition for £400.
The seller told me she’d had no other interest!!

The year 2018.

But failing that, I think pinkbike, facebook and here are all pretty similar these days. Here you get less interest but less time wasters, pinkbike somewhere in the middle, facebook you get lots of interest but lots of time wasters and a few deranged people. The bit people overlook is that sometimes the deranged people actually buy stuff.

Ebay is for making it simple basically.

I've sold 2 bikes recently and unfortunately FB Marketplace, you will get a load of "I would like it but I am working away so will send a courier..." messages but if you sort through those, and price it realistically, there are genuine buyers out there.

Normally I would say ebay but they don't seem to have the sell for 99p fees offers anymore and I am not giving them 15% of the sale, plus 15% of the postage! I find there is also an expectation that you will post the bike on ebay, this is fine but it opens you up to the buyer saying they are not happy with something and the seller has to pay to have it returned. I had this a while back and I ended up £90 odd out of pocket as ebay sided with the buyer and I had to pay for his buyers remorse.

The £1 selling fee offer has disappeared but there's an 80% off offer every couple of weeks. Well worth it for the premium price you'll get selling.

Seems it is selective as I haven't had a selling offer of any sort for over a year. Somebody suggested selling a few low value items for them to start sending offers - I tried and it didn't work, I also haven't sold for months and still no offers.

Don't get me wrong, there are times when ebay is good and I'll use it, I'd just prefer not to hand over £200 odd for selling a bike when other options are available.

Only place I got any interest (and final sale) was FB. Luckily I don’t have an account, so my wife filtered out all the time wasters for me. Usual advice, if it seems too good an offer it probably is. Don’t engage with numpties, just ignore them. Was selling an ebike and the guy was asking sensible questions and not just the usual “It’s perfect, can my uncle pick it up” nonsense. Was up on there less than a week.

Given up on Marketplace as the time wasters and scammers make it pointless.
Pinkbike is my go to for decent bikes and parts. Sometimes takes a week or two but always sell in the end and usually for a reasonable price.
If selling older kit Retrobike is a good option too.

Pb, FB and ebay. I add a picture of my mobile number to eBay photos in the hope I'll be contacted directly. Works fine for collection items.
Yes I know I'm a terrible person that will cause eBay to go bankrupt before the righteous comment ..

But nothing is really selling currently.

My bikes are getting no interest whatsoever and I dont think I'm asking much. Is it just the time of year or CRC etc?

I think a combination of factors. I just sold my Merlin and I priced it lower than I would have hoped for, even in the current market. It seems that both lack of spending money is the main driving factor - no-one has cash. Add in complexity of modern bikes and that maintenance is now as much as purchase for many, and I can see why a sale bike is much more attractive than a second hand bike.

I am on the lookout for a decent spark (2nd gen one) and the prices seem to be utterly random. The auction ones on ebay are going cheap yet so many of them on both ebay and fb are asking for silly amounts.
Going to sit tight for a while I think

Does this or this (both end today) work for you? I don't always get the offers but the direct links posted from HUKD usually work.

@frogstomp - No, I get "Unfortunately, you can no longer sign up for this promotional offer because it has expired."

I must really be on the naughty step?
