we've had the best F1 cars so how about the best looking race only motorbike?
I'll open with the YZR500 of John Kocinski. 500cc, 160bhp 2-stroke mentalness

It's a tough choice between my old formula 400 RGV250N and my VOR 503 😉

Probably the rc30, or various incarnations of the TZ 250 for me.

Not the prettiest but I really like it. Looks like it'll try and kill you as soon as you touch the throttle 🙂

[img] [/img]

The Yamaha MotoGP bikes looked lovely when they did the speed block paintwork too.

Mine (Aprilia RS125), with me on it earlier this year-

[IMG] [/IMG]

[IMG] [/IMG]

It's gone now. Sold a couple of months ago to a fella for his son to progress on.

I know it's not the best looking, but it was still jolly nice to look at and ride 😀

Any '90s two stroke GP bike is worthy of a mention too-

[img] [/img]

edit- and the lines on this TZ250 are perfect-

My vote for best looking race bike is this ➡
[img] [/img]
A stunning bike with not enough development or money to make it truely competative.

I wish!

If I'd been sensible in the 80's and bought all the old, knackered Vespas & Lambrettas slowly decomposing in local sheds and gardens I'd be a very, very rich man now.

Same with British bikes too - we used to buy them for a song and scrap them when we'd ruined them.
😐

Some lovely bikes on here, the CCM is just stunning. Always liked Mitch Paytons efforts, not a huge fan of Kawasaki but his bikes always look clean.

Ah, the 851/888, the last Ducati built by engineers rather than styled by designers 😀

I don't know if they were ever raced, but blink my flipper, the Supermonos are nice-

RGV250 in a tyga skin

I had an RGV250 and really wanted Tyga stuff. Had it tuned with an RS bottom end, lots of mods and Nikkon race pipes. Pushing 73bhp at the rear wheel when finished.. by god, didn't it go and handle well 😀

Agreed, but a competition bike, not a race bike if you're being pedantic about it 😀

😀

But it's a beautiful bike all the same.

Even though not strictly a racing bike, can we include a Kenny Roberts 350LC? Just because.....

Is there anything more fun than a tuned Elsie? 😀

Hmmmmm I had an RD250LC - "B284 BOK" where are you now?

I checked now and it was last Taxed in 1997 and hasn't been scrapped. That must mean it's stored somewhere just waiting for me to find it again 🙂

How can we have got this far without the most successful and influential (to Britain at least) race bike of recent times? How..?

That's a bloody awful picture.
Try again

Lovely PP, I've owned 3 Ducati 916's, along with 2 748's and a 749 🙂

Pic below is my old race bike. Blueprinted and gasflowed engine, STM slipper clutch, 50mm exhaust, Marchesinis, etc etc

For me

500cc MV Agusta - I think this is the triple - with the legendary Ago on board.
I hear that bike in my dreams 🙂 - nothing ever [or since] sounds that good.

Saw & heard the MV at Olivers Mount way back. I've never heard anything like it to this day.

I never saw Ago at Scarborough but I remember seeing Phil Read on the works MV there and - of course - the incredible noise as hammered it's way though the trees

Happy days 🙂

The classic bikes around Oliver's Mount, winding it on out of the hairpin and up the hill made a spine tingling noise... I feel a Google for the date coming on, it's Gold Cup weekend not Cock o' the North isn't it?

I did however see Ago win both the junior and senior TT in 1970
For the senior we were at Quarterbridge and again, the sound of that MV heading out of town was amazing

The yellow and black (American) YZ's always looked so trick, when you saw one over here you almost had to speak in hushed whispers

A lad in our schoolboy MX club had a yellow Yamaha 80 with a full DG convesion kit.
Almost as trick as Jason Bonhams watercooled Mugen Honda.
Looked just like Johnny O's bike.

Seems money could buy you a works bike.
