You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm stuck in a mouse-infested bungalow in the rain having a slowly deepening breakdown, with nothing to do all day. My phone is my lifeline, I must be on it 8 hours a day. If the broadband conks out or the phone breaks I'm in deep poop because I've nothing else to do. The meds are building up and my mood is stabilising but still drops from relaxed to paralysed with stress in seconds if I think of the wrong thing. The phone takes my mind away from here.
Besides cycling web fora, can anybody suggest any other ways of wasting time online?
“Real Risk” Podcasts - some really interesting people
Dr Pimple Popper on YouTube def takes your mind off things
Youtube restoration videos. Axes, knives, vices, boats, vintage motorbikes. Something massively therapeutic about watching a skilled person taking a knackered, unloved object and making it like new again.
Hope your situation improves, it sounds grim. Sounds trite I know, but in my 56 years on the planet, I have discovered that when I think things are shit and won't get better, I'm always proved wrong.
No idea but it really troubles me seeing someone I've seen on here for years going through what you are doing.
I don't know the answer I'm afraid, but I really hope things get better.
Rick Beato's YouTube vids about "what makes this song great". That'll take you a while. And if you never got into Project Binky, now's your chance - 36 episodes over 7 years. I won't give away the ending...
Not so much internet. Just STW tbh
Some youtube especially restorations and bike build stuff. Painting tutorials.
I like this zen game. It always makes me feel better.

Mrs P is in pain all day with multiple disabling issues and failing health. She swears by lots of documentaries and also Podcasts.
Give The Moth podcast a look?
I find that’s awesome and often inspiring/enlightening in surprising ways. I use it to help insomnia and spiralling depression. That and a dab of tiger balm under the nose. The deep red variety. Clears the mind.
Best thing about podcasts is you can download hours worth and listen offline if there’s a service outage/poor signal.
tbh I bought a cheap electronic drum kit in April and it’s transformed the way I view each day. 20 minutes morning and night. Structured practice and learning. It’s been a lifesaver.
Even if I didn’t have the full kit, I also got a used practice pad and sticks only cost me 18 quid all in. Rudiments can be learned via loads of youtube drumming channels. Use phone as metronome/training via free apps. If it was my phone vs the practice pad and sticks...I’d now choose the latter
Also watch Felix Immler on Youtube. Swiss Army Knife/easy bushcraft shenanigans/mods. He makes me smile. Great attitude and fun Wideos.
Pinball Deluxe Reloaded is hands down the best phone game I've ever played. I'm totally addicted to the Ladder online play mode.
^
Have you tried out ‘Pin Out’? It’s an ‘endless’ scroller with ace ‘electronic’ soundtrack. Really good imo. Increasingly frustrating but also sort of ‘zen’ too Will take a look at Pinball Deluxe ...
Step away from the screen, and immerse yourself in some good books instead!
Hope it goes well for you.

Yep.
Also if possible walk every day for an hour at least. Wherever. If immobile then use mobility aid/vehicle. I was off my feet for a number of years but found that regular hydrotherapy, moon-gazing, and learning simple street photography all made life 1000 times better
Mousetrap Monday on YouTube. Plenty of options to resolve the rodent problem.
Been listening to a couple of good albums lately on youtube. The hurting by Tears for fears and Standing on a beach by the cure.
How about watching some 1970s comedies well to cheer yourself up.
Gamers adventures on Arma 3 Day Z.
I've played this myself, but nobody told me you could die of thirst, so my character is in the middle of nowhere dying of thirst. Seems you need a bottle or cup and you get water from streams, rivers and wells.
If I log in, the character gets 3 steps then falls over dead.
In those adventures, I arrived at one of the supply air drops, but 3 other guys were there and basically told me to F off or they'd shoot me.
I left, then discovering they'd left their vehicle unlocked, promptly stole it and drove away leaving them stranded.
I couuldnt find accelerate so had to drive off slowly with them shooting at me. I can still hear the bullets pinging off as im driving off laughing my 4r5e off 😆
It fills time and can be somewhat addictive once you get the idea of it. Though that said it can be a bit depressing to die or be murdered for the small amount of items ive collected.
Downloading Pin Out, cheers p7eaven
Just started evening (brisk) walking again after months of screen-glue. In less than two days it’s helping cure insomnia/anxiety which I’ve had since Feb/March
So that’s drumming for an hour a day, walking/mp3/photography for 1hr-3hrs. All of which make me happy to be away from the ‘black mirror’. With work and chores that’s me done and knackered by this time now.
The
1. drums (structured learning/focal engagement/dopamine when progressing/playing)
and
2. Walking/being outdoors are (I’ve found) the only two things to have begun beating depression. And profoundly. (Can’t ride bikes at the mo, not until next year)
Was sweeping and raking leaves today and breathing it all in. Watching the wildlife. Smelling the smells. Making friends with a cat that is visiting us. Simple. Outdo
Tho now is time for me to go and watch people talking shite on youtube. Possibly about nonsense. Then I dropoff or sleep to a quiet podcast channel.
PS there’s Geoguesser. I have a subscription but forget to use it! I think you get a free game a day anyway. Or watch the Geowizard bloke smash it for free ...
For me, it’s basically this place, and Flipboard, the news aggregator app; it’s particularly handy for all sorts of news items showing just how many ways The Donald has been a dick on any given day, but lots of other stuff from all over the place as well.
For me, it's history...
Is it raining today OP? Managed 7 miles yesterday. Overdid it but it was sunny/rainy and I knew where there was a big oak wood. Had plans to hunt down a chicken of the woods for the pan but the only mushrooms I saw were a few weird trumpety things and some small black jelly ones. Saw a muntjac up really close as I was walking so slowly. They have amazing Darth Mawlish stripes on their head/face which I never noticed before. We looked at each other for what seemed like quite a while but it was just a moment
Can’t walk far today too much pain, will just stroll to shop for dinner ingredients. Today studying and cleaning/dog-sitting
Study: Ikigai (生き甲斐)
Cleaning: Doing some clearing-out/clutter-destruction while gobbing various anti-inflammatories.
Screentime: Last night very much enjoyed this channel, which was recommended:
That is pretty good I only just found it a week or so ago. Theres also Curious droid and again another find about a week ago is mega projects which is just an explosion of videos but I think I prefer curios droid.
