Morning all

Having just moved I'm looking for a new internet only provider. Previously used talk talk which was functional at best but could be rather flakey so looking to see what else is around.

Dont own a TV so no interest at all in a TV package. Don't need or want a landline either as the place I've moved to already has one that I can't change.

Best can mean loads of different things: cheapest, fastest, best support etc.

Not the cheapest but for very reliable service, great support etc, I am with iDNET and they are great. Linky

Zen for me every time. Not the cheapest but by far and away the best I’ve used. Stable and fast connection and exemplary customer service. Can’t remember if the do a package sans phone line though.

No phone line isn't that much of issue I guess as there doesn't have to be a phone connected to it so to speak.

To clarify my needs then my granddad has recently passed away and I am currently staying at his house so it won't be left unattended while the estate is settled. Due to this I can't be tied into a fixed term contract as I don't know how long this will take unless I would be able to move it with me when I leave.

I use the internet for research, student nurse, streaming movies/Netflix/prime and it will be me and my son staying at the weekends.

I found my previous provider talktalk, as mentioned above, to be rather flakey with frequent drop outs despite living in a brand new build across the road from the network box and with a brand new line fitted so would rather swerve them.

Sorry to hear about your grandad.

There's not many providers doing short term or rolling contracts, but you should be able to move it to a new address when you leave.

4g sim, and either tethered to you phone or a old phone or buy a router that can take a sim or a mifi device.

3 are doing a unlimited 4g sim again I believe.

edit: yes they are £32 on a one month notice contract and allows hot spot use.

Yep I'd go with the 4g sim much easier if the signal is good.

But from what I've seen if your line is good and easy to connect then any of them do a good service so pick on price. If you are dealing with customer service that is when the pain starts with all of them - mostly as they don't have the actual power to fix your problems.

Thanks for that, looks like a nice simple solution.  How do the sim only connections stand up to multiple users?  Just thinking of when my son is here at the weekend; we're both studying, A levels and degree, so will be using laptops and phones.

You could just add him some more data for his phone.

Good point and well made, everything is a bit hectic at the mo and genuinely hadn't thought of that.  I did see 3 have a Home Wifi service with 40gb for £24/month.  Will pop into town and have a chat.

I’ve never implemented the 4g system myself but a couple of threads you might find interesting.
