Following on from the Beeb yesterday, what's the best UK Insta noodle? I need to top up the work emergency stash!

*bookmarks thread*

my general rule is that the less English there is on the packaging, the better it is.

Nissin Soba noodle pot:  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nissin-Classic-Noodles-Yakisoba-Sauce/dp/B00V3NGLVK

(obviously don't pay a fiver for it off Amazon!).  they come with a pot with drain holes in the lid and a sachet of oil, so you 'cook' them in water, then drain it out and add the oil/sauce.

Great, until one finds oneself faced with a bowl of warm shredded squid...

(no wonder otsumami is generally consumed after quantities of sake.)

For ease of purchase, Maggi noodles.

ease of purchase the Maggi ones - 4 packs for a quid in Poundland on a regular basis. Break up in the pack before opening to eating size and then 'cook' in a mug for a tasty and not totally disastrous (calorie wise) work snack.

But those Nissin ones are great; the nearby newsagent (Happy Shopper type) sometimes has them and I usually stock up.  Teryaki FTW.

Or find a local Asian supermarket and take pot luck (literally). Although I have had one from there so hot that my arse was like a Japanese flag for days afterwards. Chilli infused hot water seems to burn far more than any oil based heat.

Another vote for Nissin Soba noodles - always have a few of them on standby for emergencies at work.

The Nissan soba one are the best I’ve tried, I favour the chilli one, get them from Tesco’s but they give me heart burn. I’m still looking to try the ‘Sapporo ichiban (miso ramen)’ ones, as they’ve were recommended previously as the bestest, but I’m not paying a £5 for them off amazon to confirm. I enjoyed the beeb article, especially when the guy who Ton Tan Tin, makes his living as a noodle critic:
<div>

On a large computer screen, he begins to click through all of his reviews. Most scores hover around three out of five. Suddenly, a shockingly low score pops up - a 0.1 out of five stars.

“Those noodles were really thick and ‘guagua’,” he says. “It was a really bad texture in my mouth. And the soup is really thick. It’s a very kind of artificial flavour. And the condiments you chew but they just keep staying in your mouth. They were very difficult to swallow.”

The product in question? One of the UK’s top sellers - Cup Noodle Chicken and Mushroom flavour. Millions of British university students survive on this, I tell him.

Nong Shim Shin Cup! In the red tub with the ECG trace on it. Don't use all the powder the first time.

Currently favouring Aldi's version of the Naked Noodle. Pretty much same style of packaging, probably the same stuff inside. Very nice and only 59p compared to about £1.50 for the branded.

Kabuto noodles, from pretty much anywhere. Bit spendy for Instanoodles, very salty, but nice.

Saisburys seem to have a decent selection.

Not freeze dried for bikepacking, but still 'instant' the Itsu ones are nice.

The Tom Yum ones in store are the business

Hmm, my experience with Pot Noodles - mum used to leave them for us when she went to work in the school hols, means I haven't touched an instant noodle in 30 odd years. Next time I'm in Lidl, I shall investigate!

Nissin Demae Ramen for me. I get them in Tesco, but they hide them alongside the other imported Japanese stuff rather than putting them next to the other instant noodles.
