hi as above i need to do an invoice and letters etc for my wifes business and dont have word, im after a free word proceeor program that i can make the basic invoice on and email it to customers as an attachment

Open Office or Google Docs probably. Google Docs only online, but that should be OK in an office environment.
Edit - ah, didn't spot the 'be able to e-mail to clients' requirement. Open Office then.
Libreoffice will do almost everything which MS Office does.
(This is a newer version of OpenOffice. Google the difference between them)
For simpler work, look at Google Docs and / or Zoho Office.
I think zoho also may have a free accounts package too.

TBH, for what most people do with a word processor, Wordpad is probably sufficient. If you want something more fully-featured, it's hard to go wrong with LibreOffice.
Open Office - put a bit of time into it and use the online help etc and it will do what you want easily.
In terms of emailing to clients always best to export as pdf and password protect the necessary elements. All easy to do in Open Office...
