need to send a couple of vids (a few 100 mb's)and am overwhelmed by the options when googling. what's good and free ?

2nded - dropbox is free online storage space and you can give people the link to download directly.

YouSentIt is very good. No need to install anything, just registrar and send.

I have used yousendit for years - it works ok but there may be more modern alternatives

Same with dropbox, though they do make it look like you need the app (and it is helpful for syncing computers).
