Havent got the time and inclination to make them from scratch, so has anybody got any recommendations for a good mix?

Al Fez mix is easy to make and pretty damn tasty. Can add your own twist too.

Think the ones I made last were a jamie oliver recipe

tin of chickpeas
tin of mixed beans
blob of harrisa
lemon juice and zest (zest in the mix juice as a dressing)
teaspoon of allspice
tablespoon plain flour
handful of coriander (stalks in the mix leaves as with a salad /garnish)

In the past I've used a this recipe too (which might be from an old Nigel Slater book)

2 x 400g tins chickpeas
garlic - 6 plump cloves, crushed
ground coriander - 2 tsp
ground cumin - 2 tsp
1 medium onion, chopped
plain flour - 2 tbs
chopped parsley - 1 tbs

Both nice you could use the latter one as a dip/spread rather than cook it - its practically a houmous mix. The mixed beans in the former one make the falafels a bit moister.

I use Nigels, make loads and then freeze it in balls. Takes all of 5 minutes to make, you just throw stuff in a mixer.

Second the Al-Fez (currently 99p according to My Supermarket) stuff it's pretty nice. I used to get a nicer one which was Australian but haven't got that one for a while.
