i'll kick off with
and
what yer got ?
Does this count as pop?
Killing in the Name.
(honourable mention to British Sea Power... I'm not really a fan but their Sea of Brass shows were amazing, just so joyous)
@Caher, but is it the Apples or is it Brass Against?
If rock counts, Little Angels.
Boneyard live on the limited release Live Jam album especially.
Not pop but I'm giving you Brass Construction Movin' and also Changin'
is rock not popular who knew 🙂
even sixties tv show themes count (no rules though we draw a line at jazz 😉 )
Poss my increasing piss poor hearing but I love brass. All these are just so good!
Geno by Dexy’s has already been taken so although I think this is actually saxophone Rather than brass I’m going to choose it anyway
James Brown as above, in the hot tub, rubba dub indeed!.
LOL at the hot tub rubba dub.
kind of iconic in pop, though the actual brass is a bit generic sunday band stand (by design)
klunk
Can’t beat Sweet home Chicago really. But if I had too, love the section starting about 0:50 here...
😀
Been listening to this in the garden this week, stunning album. No vid though.
I suppose some mad dutch kids doing afro beat probably isn't pop, but they have brass
Brass, you say? An outstanding cover by Calexico
Not ‘pop’ as such, but you won’t find much better brass playing than this, Becky and Rachel Unthank with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band
In the same vein, Kate Rusby, and a song about her own family, with lovely brass.

Roxanne.
I was going to post a Calexico track, ****ing amazing live, especially right close up in the rough trade tent at the Greenman festival
oh my what a night, missed the Fall to be there.
@Nick - when was that? I’ve seen Calexico a couple of times in Bristol, close up, but not that close up! Superb band.
Following on from Calexico, Mariachi El Bronx
@CountZero Greenman festival 2015, think it was the Saturday night, they had just played the main stage to 10000 people, me and my brother were on our way to see the Fall and just happened to notice they were due on for an impromptu set in the the rough trade tent, and there was no one there, so we grabbed the front spot, gave the guitarist a beer and watched them play 3 more songs, suffice to say it was rammed very quickly, just lucky,
Sunday night was mental brasstastic afrobeat with Jungle by Night closing out the festival with the most bonkers set and crowd I've ever seen, finished at 3am Monday morning, I'm having a flashback as I type this.
And switching coasts and genres
Good to see the brass revival. It's been too long.
Hopefully, it will start to evolve further into proper TV themes. Like the olden days, when a trumpeter was never unemployed.
I give you Sportsnight
Wimbledon Match of the Day
Ski Sunday
Grandstand
And the Granddaddy, Match of the Day
Proper brass.
NO mention for Baker street? OK again its a sax which IIRC actually counts as woodwind for some weird reason
Ok if we can have Baker Street then we can have this
I don’t know if it’s near the best, but I like it.

And since we’ve had a little jazz, here’s some more. Although you could fill the top 10 000 places with jazz!

Pig bag! Good shout that man, I’d forgotten that one. 😎

I wondered that also. The sax sound comes from player's breath vibrating a reed, whereas in brass, it's the player's lips vibrating which makes the sound.
According to wikipedia that is.
Brass Against maybe stretching the pop definition slightly but worthy of a shout out
Ah Kate Rusby's "My Young Man". Brings a lump to my throat that one 'cos of my family background. It's not pop though.
It’s not pop though.
I know. I don’t care.
Again, hardly top 40 material, but probably need some Beirut in here
Any track that features The Memphis Horns. Any.
It’s not pop though.
I know. I don’t care.
Ooh you rebel.
Teardrop Explodes - Reward
Soft Cell - Torch
Robert Wyatt - Shipbuilding
Does this count?
yeah
Fishbone.
Now the sax embargo has been lifted.
When your average STW'er goes to sleep at night this is the dream!
JEEEEEEEZ!!!!
just took the dog for a walk and this one popped up on shuffle...3 weeks at number 1 in 1964
just ignore the strings (and the dress)
Shout out for Andy Diagram, especially his work in James which is a key part of their signature Sound.
