In my experience (18 months of owning a Blackberry Pearl) the only decent App I could find was Google Sync.
Google sync?
The Twitter app is quite good.
Oh, and there's a beta of Trillian (multi-platform IM) which seems to work reasonably well.

2 years I had a Blackberry and the only app worth downloading was google maps. Everything else of any use is included.

I've just switched phones from a Blackberry to an HTC and having my contact on google has meant that by just entering my e-mail address and password in to the HTC I have all of my contacts on the new phone.
No faffing about backing up contacts onto a sim card or entering them all from scratch.
I can also access them from my computer at work or at home.
