As I always knew, my hometown of Bournemouth has the best beach in the UK. Harry Ramsdens, a surf reef that doesn't work, a grotty pier where I got headbutted as an innocent 15 year old and the shittest nightclub on the planet, cannot take away from the FACT that the sand is the best and Leilani Dowding and her sister sunbathed there.

https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2018/feb/21/tripadvisor-crowns-bournemouth-beach-as-the-uk-best

screw you Northumberland, screw you.

Can anyone dare to suggest otherwise?

I live near Bournemouth and agree. Keep all the tests in one place, in a ideal world I would make somewhere in Essex no 1. To reduce the traffic.

Bournemouth is the right location for all beach holidays, just get the council to remove all the double yellow lines, parking ticket machines and make Sandbanks into a two way road with free parking.

Fixed..

About 4-5 years ago, I had a first date on Bournemouth beach.. she brought quiche, strawberries and fresh orange juice.

Was nice. So it gets my vote.

I agree.  Bournemouth is far better than Northumberland.  Everybody go to Bournemouth.  Northumberland is rubbish.  Nobody should come here.  Erm, I mean *there*.

And Brighton beach made the list in 4th place in the UK. Is this the same Brighton beach that I've seen – you know, the one that is a big mound of pebbles? Or is there another, nice, Brighton beach which is hidden from general view?

There is a beach in Brighton, hidden from general view, you should check it out and let us know what you see!

It's tripadvisor, their rankings for beaches are likely to be as ****ed as their rankings for everything else.

Lovely when it's warm and nice weather, so no wonder you haven't been tempted. That's a week in a year probability.

Plus if you're local you must be spoilt for choice anyway.

I'm 48 and I genuinely have no idea where Bournemouth is, apart from vaguely down south somewhere.

Is it nice then?

It's a good idea to stay away from Horgabost Beach in Harris too.
It's often rammed with people like in this pic...

I agree, that pebbly beach is far better than the last few and indeed this one I visited at peak time in 2016...it was desperate.

Nice beaches posted there, but I see no surf...

Do they ever get surf?

Looking at google maps none seem to be on any Swell routes...

And do they ever get warm ? Or are we talking balmy 12C temps...?

Nah, Blackpool is far better than Brighton - a much classier town; built for the discerning traveller, with sophistication in abundance.  It is only bettered by S****horpe.  Or Redcar (don't forget to try a Lemon Top from Pacittos).

MTFU and get in the (North) Sea.

Saltburn

And on a nice day

You should all avoid it, it's horrible, you can't even fat bike all the way from Redcar to Skinningrove at low tide.

Saunton was robbed.

Mind you, it is only Trip Advisor and the top rated restaurant in our town according to them is a kebab van in B&Q carpark.

They're probably right though.

I surf Saltburn a lot, I reckon it’s one of the best beaches for a dabble and chips.. the slab at Redcar is also good on its day, but you have to watch the shallow suck..

I’d be interested to hear about the west coast Scotland, some of the beaches posted earlier look amazing.

I remember the heatwave when the thermometer cracked double digits.

Luckily the Force 10 breeze kept the midgies down or it would have been hell.

Harris beaches are the best in the world ..and on a good day the best in the universe ..

Bournemouth comes a close second though ..so I would just stay down there 😉

Lived in Bournemouth for first 20 years of my life and the beaches have always been great.  Not just the quality but the quantity as they go from studland all the way past Christchurch.

However the people weren't quite bitter or racist enough so I had to move to the New Forest

I could kinda see the argument that Bournemouth beach is a good "beach".
In that its probably the warmest but still very sandy beach in the UK, and it goes on and on so there is plenty of beach there.

The problem is Bournemouth has been built right next to it, which kinda ruins it.
The Concrete supports for the pier jetty are proper ugly.

If you had came at the start of the Victorian era when the area was less developed it would have been really cool.

I have no idea why Brighton beach is on the list, its a terrible beach all round.
