You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just finally getting to catch up with some albums that have come out this year or late last year that I missed. So what i`m enjoying at the moment is :
- Shit Robot - We Got a love
- The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream
- Metronomy - Love letters
- Wild Beasts - Present tense
- Daniel Avery - Drone Logic (Late last year)
- St Vincent - St Vincent (Late last year)
So what else have I missed that I should have got my ears around or that you have enjoyed.
I must admit I've had to force myself to stop listening to Love Letters before I wear it out. A few things off the top of my head....
Vermont - Vermont
Tycho - Awake
Com Truise - Wave 1
Patten - Estoile Naiant
Haven't bought many new releases so I'll have to say
Glitch Mob - Love Death Immortality
But to be fair it's a pretty short list so far this year.
Lack of Afro - Music for Adverts
I am going to listen to all of these albums over the next couple of days. I am currently stuck on SPotify Radio (although brilliant, I am missing listening to albums)
Need to get the metronomy
Liking so far
The war on drugs
Damian Jurado
Beck
Hospitality - Trouble
Forgot about Beck, not quite as good as the hype for me but still very good.
I hate these questions, I can never decide on the best album of any particular year at the end of the year, let alone a quarter of the way through! Trouble is, I haven't really bought many albums so far, just a bunch of individual tracks I've Shazam'd, but Elbow's The Take-off And Landing Of Everything is going to take some beating. A new one by one of my absolute favourite singer-songwriters, Kris Delmhorst, Blood Test, which I'm supporting via Kickstarter, will be another contender. Rae Morris (works with Bombay Bicycle Club), has a new album, too, which might well be a possible, on the strength of her live performance.
I'll come back to this come New Year... 😀
Petals - Junction 32
Daniel Avery's album is good.
Going to give war on drug's album a listen.
Listened to Elbow's new one couple of days ago and underwhelmed.
Looking forward to The Horrors new album in May, the two tracks released so far sound good.
So albums far:
Young Fathers - Dead (will still be the best in the end of year lists 🙂 )
Breton - War Room Stories
Sisyphus
Bike For Three! - So Much Forever
Liars - Mess
Not an album:
Blue Daisy - Psychotic Love, which is a 4 track EP
Lack of Afro album is indeed a good one!
Not listened to many new ones so far but two that I'm enjoying at the moment are
Mutual Benefit - Loves Crushing Diamond
Warpaint - Warpaint
Not bought much this year so Mogwai: Rave Tapes. But new 65DOS on the way which looks like it might be a corker.
Sisyphus Music by Sisyphus - it's very very very good.
Good shout misterduncan 🙂
Agnes Obel - Aventine
Warpaint - Warpaint
Stellar Om Source - Love One Mile
TBH, I've been a bit crap on the new music front this year - too busy buying cheap classical box sets and Welsh folk music.
Just posting in here so I can check out this stuff tomorrow, need some new music, cheers 🙂
Cool. Plenty to get stuck into here. Cheers peeps.
so far have heard most of:
Tycho - Awake
Sounds good. Pretty mellow, perfect for a morning in the office.
Etherwood - Etherwood (late last year)
Melodic/chilled drum and base.
Wow, just listened to Lack of Afro because of this thread...
Good call STW!
Currently listening to Kassidy, Hope St. 'tis good
So far -
Wild Beasts...Present Tense
I like that the singer always reminds me of Billy MacKenzie.
I am trying not to listen to it too often.
It's a bit like trying to stop a favourite shirt turning in to a rag.
Etherwood - Etherwood (late last year)
Brilliant album, one of the best of 2013.
Looking forward to Timber Timbre and Tune-Yards new albums. Both out soon.
Morning Glory - War Psalms
HTRK - Psychic 9-5 Club
Hmmm. I have listened to some of these. I like Lack of Afro/Etherwood...some of the others are a bit bed wettery for my tastes.
(Disclaimer, I have no taste. Last album I bought was Ferocious Dog)
Glitch Mob? 'Bed Wettery?'
Not the first adjective that comes to mind.
Clobber, I first heard them on the Craig Charles Funky Souly show* on 6Music. Recommended listening if you like that sort of sound.
*Awoooooooga! Awooooooooga! Are you wearing sunglasses?
Glitch Mob? 'Bed Wettery?'

Indeed no, but "clueless" is one that springs to mind for someone who would use the phrase. But then he does admit it 🙂
I didn't listen to glitch mob...will try that now
I don't like that dubstep sound....but will have a proper listen tomorrow.
It was metronomy and Sisyphus that I thought were a bit lame.
No worries, I was more confused than anything, the album's a bit of a blunt instrument, great for murdering yourself on the rollers but some of the clever Glitchy bits from their first album are missing which is a shame. Still worth a spin though.
Now listening to Lack Of Afro as well, quite fun, may dig it out for the Funk Friday at the office, good call.

They're nothing like dubstep either.
Didn't say they were. Not gonna get into a geek off with you though.
From what I'm hearing at the moment...Jack Beats/Beatbox is gonna be up there for me....
But it's just an EP
Must say War On Drugs album is looking very enticing, and I've just pre-ordered the special edition CD of Pixies new album.
I like what I've heard of Royal Blood, too, and I've got to get Blood Red Shoes new one, before I see them next month.
Blood Red Shoes is a good one. Just bought tickets to see em too.
Pixies are a caricature of the band they once were (IMO!)
Circa Zero - "Circus Hero"
My debut solo album will of course top everything mentioned when it comes out late summer ❗
Teeth Dreams - The Hold Steady, probably not going to be the album of the year but a return to top form at least.
Thanks to everyone mentioning War On Drugs can't stop listening to it, just WOW!
