I want loads, I've a dull afternoon ahead of me, and I want to listen to some class music.

Just had a quick listen of the Gogol one, How mad is that..? 😆

Went to check out that Alabama 3 album on Spotify. Track listing - looks good, put the headphones in OH GOD WHAT IS THAT THERE? EMERGENCY REMOVAL OF HEADPHONES. It looks like it says 'Johnny Borrell' on that there track. Oh god, it really does.

2 girls 1 cup has nothing on seeing Johnny Borrellend's name on the track of an album you're about to listen to. 🙁 👿

Ufomammut - Eve - psychedelic doom
Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones - really bleak metal
Joanna Newsom - Have one on me - bonkers
Red Sparowes - Fear is... - post rock

Hmm, maybe I should expand my horizons!

You should try this obscure thing called "The Internet". Also known as "The World Wide Web". You'll find a fair bit of music on there. No-one will tell you what to like, which could be a problem.

Just wondering how many folks here are aware of Hume's definition of an aesthetic judgement and if so, how many here are actually in a position to make one ?

A thread title of music you like rather than "best" might be more appropriate.

Of course those who are in a position to comment can carry on as normal 😉

better than the other guff in the charts

Which charts?

See, all those who seem to object to "obscure" or "underground" music, or whatever you want to call it.. look here http://boomkat.com
An online music store. The front page. I've only heard of 4 or 5 of the artists. There is SO MUCH music around, why does it upset/annoy/whatever you that you haven't heard of stuff?? Incomprehensible attitude.

LCD album was ever so slightly disappointing for me. Just not as good as the last one, still liked it but feels a bit formulaic now.

Ditto Crystal Castles, which lacks the hypnotic weirdness of their debut. I saw them live, they were alright but Heaven is an awful venue.

Four Tet album is impressive, but not sure if it really hits home as either spoddy-glitchy laptop music or dance music.

I suppose nothing's really blown me away yet that was released in 2010, but I'll check out some of the above recommendations.

Who me? it doesn't, my music taste is as obscure and random as it gets and you probably wouldn't have heard of half of my music collection.

I was simply disagreeing that Plan B was shite, its actually quite a good soulful album. his 1st album was pants though.

Oh and thanks for the link, looks interesting.

+1 for Bonnie Prince Billy and the Cairo gang, can't get enough of it

The National "High Violet"
She and Him - vol 2
Field Music - Measure (might have been 2009)
Midlake - Courage of Others
Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can

At the risk of being terribly populist, and possibly 2009, I think the Mumford and Sons album is awesome.

With BD on Gaslight Anthem and The Hold Steady. Seen both live and the Hold Steady are blooming amazing. That there fella goes for it.

The National's one is good too (could also be 09 though).

Loving the new on by Sleeveless Ego Leather. Best thing out of NW America in years.

Loved The Hold Steady, but for me didn't match up to Boys & Girls in America.

Know what people mean about LCD being dissapointing. That was my first impression too, but it's grown on me steadily.

Have heard about the Gis Scott Heron but not heard it. Thanks for tip - will get myself on Spotify forthwith.

Avi Buffalo, Laura Marling, MGMT's congratulations is worth a proper go, some of Darwin Deez - bit novelty tho.
Yeasayer, Broken Bells is good but a bit soft, too clean. I like Gorollaz, I'm loving Midlake but that was last year i think.

Just to be clear I've no interest in folk trying to out "obscure" each other. I'm genuinely interested in what's blown you away. When music threads appear here. I do listen to pretty much every link and recommendation that's posted. It's literally days of endless excitment sometimes. Opening up a you tube link is like unwrapping a Xmas pressie. It may not be what you hoped fir but the senders/posters sentiments are hopefully one of genuine " this is fab you have to listen to this right now"

Ihn I agree it's footstompingly ace

Nick, are you into 60's music? I have a gem I could yousendit to you. It's primarily good, happens to be obscure!
A bit Kate Bushy. It's the only thing that's touched me in that xmas prezzie kinda way

The Late Greats - Turpentine

I like Heaven is Wherever more than Stay Positive, I think, but I still prefer The Hold Steady's first three albums, especially Separation Sunday.

I was disappointed by The Courage of Others and Revolver Soul is growing on me only slowly. Where Oracular Spectacular had a few pop gems on it, Congratulations didn't have much that stuck in my head (except that one about Brian Eno, a bit). The latest Gorillaz album is fairly good but can't hold a candle to Demon Days.

I think I've bought a reasonable number of new albums this year but so far nothing seems to have really grabbed me. No doubt some will grow on me but none have had an immediate impact.

Anyone know of any good punk/hardcore stuff thats been released recently?

Alot of the albums mentioned so far i reckon have been good like four tet, flying lotus, pantha du prince etc. but none of it has 'blown me away'

I think theres a newish dirty projector album that will probably be quite good.

Omar RL and John Frusciante released some old stuff a couple of months back (for free) that was quite good.

both The National and Midlake albums are 2010, I'm sure of that

I'm off to see The National tonight in Brighton - last time I saw them was in a tiny venue with about 50 people in the audience - will be interesting to see them in a biggish venue

Mike Patton - Mondo Cane
Emma Pollock - The Law of Large Numbers
Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis
First Aid Kit - The Big Black and the Blue
Melvins - The Bride Screamed Murder
The Inspector Cluzo - The French Bastards
High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine
HDA - EP

These are all getting played quite a bit at the moment. If I had to pick a best one so far it'd be Mondo Cane for Patton's sheer audacity.

Also like the one with the line "the smell of your box on my moustache" - only BPB can get away with a line like that on a love song

Clearly I will have to buy the BPB album 🙂

My favourite so far is Pantha du Prince - Black Noise, purely judged by how much I caned it when first purchased. Beach House album also very much caned, but is 2009 I think.

Having checked WMP it seems I have only 4 albums from this year...

Best, therefore, is easy: Laura Marling - I speak because I can.

Despite being a massive Bonnie Prince Billy fan I've not managed to penetrate the reaches of The Wonder Show... Don't know why.

Favourite re-issue goes to the Runaways, but purely for Cherry Bomb...

I didnt realise they'd released a new album (turns out it was released in 2009). Ive just given it a quick listen and I think it sounds a bit ****, or at least not as good as their other stuff.
