The wet Bank Holiday has meant that after riding I've tended to stay in, warm up and then watch movies. So many movies.

I love Milla Jovovich in so many things, Kate Beckinsale was awesome in the Total Recall reboot. But this weekend I watched Haywire for the first time since it came out and blimey Gina Carano is really excellent.

Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity

Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow

Not necessarily "movie" but Jessica Jones is pretty damn awesome.

Gina Davies in The Long Kiss Goodnight, Noomi Rapace(?) in What Happened to Monday and the survivalist girl from that trapped in a house with murderers / boyfriends family film I can never remember the name of. Invaders wear animal masks and it’s like Home Alone crossed with First Blood.

I saw Nikita for the first time only last week. Really enjoyed it.

Still think Gina Carano's fight scenes look the most convincing.

Haywire is a great film. Has she done anything else besides that and Deadpool?

I want to say Ripley, but for me it was always be Leia... now I’ve managed to wash The Last Jedi from my mind anyway.

As others have already said, Ellen Ripley was my first thought.

Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor?  Lovely transition from hapless bimbo in The Terminator to badass in T2.

Various Lara Crofts - I've not seen the new one yet but that looks like she could be great.

And then there's River Tam in Serenity (TTIUWP):

Kate Beckinsale was awesome in the Total Recall reboot

You seem to have typoed "Underworld."

Hows about Melanie Laurent in Inglorious Barsterds?

An unlikely heroine perhaps?

Seem to remember Zoe Saldana in Colombiana being pretty good, just adding to the suggestions, rather than trying to top Ripley

Ripley was the one that sprung to my mind instantly on this topic

River Tam would win any fight though

I'd have to go with Zhang Ziyi or Michelle Yeoh. Cynthia Rothrock back in the day.

No mention of Katniss from the hunger games? (though ripley would still nuke her from orbit, and river would take her in a fight too)

The scale of what? I can't put my finger on it but I found those films to have some kind of hypnotic impenetrable dullness that I just couldn't get passed. I know I'm not the target audience and I do like Jennifer Lawrence but I found them really hard to watch.

And then there’s River Tam in Serenity

Oh yes, be still, my beating heart! 😍😍 Summer has appeared in Terminator - The Sarah Connor Cronicles, Dollhouse, along with the afore mentioned Eliza Dusku. I loved the fight scene in Firefly where she was grabbed from behind by some big bloke, and she kicked him in the back of his head! That’s flexibility, and the source of any number of fantasy scenarios...

Oh, there’s Michelle Rodriguez, from Girl Fight and the Fast and Furious franchise.

if by best you mean most efficient killing machine you'd be hard pressed to beat  Kim Ok-bin from the Villainess (korean film) - the opening scene is like a live video game. Very gory.

Though  Yanin "Jeeja" Vismistananda in Chocolate (thai film) is pretty good especially as no stunt doubles were  used in filming.

That's just bizarre...!

I met Emily Booth (Bouff!) last weekend.  Bet your life I wasn't hover-handing for the photo.

Has to be Ellen Ripley from Aliens. The character defined the genre.

However a couple of honourable mentions

Julie Andrews in The Sound Of Music ..

How she kept the Von Trapp family spirits up in the face of all that Nazi aggression simply by singing a few songs was a wonder to behold ...

Marvellous !

Edit : ..oops forgot to leave this ..

I’ve met her, y’know.

I think you actually need to be in the picture for it to be proof

re hovering hands is there some rule you cannot touch them when you pay for a pic - never been to any of the comic con type events - I am sure i would enjoy it if i did so not a dig.

I was the one taking the photos.  It was kinda the pre-selfie era.  I can send you the link to my Flickr album if you want to see the rest of the photos.

Not to my knowledge.  Depends on the guest I suppose.  And I didn't (directly) pay for the pic, it was included in the ticket I bought.

Of all guests, I think Bouff is probably the last person to be concerned about someone with a hand around her waist!  She was charming and lovely.

+1 for Buffy. Willow and Faith were also "badass". However, the answer is Ellen Ripley.

A few other candidates: Jodie Foster's Clarice Starling; Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity (The Matrix); Jamie Lee Curtis (Helloween).

Naomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander from the girl with dragon tattoo.

Lee Geum-ja played by Lee Yeong-ae in Lady Vengeance.

Ripley is not bad-ass, she's reacting to her circumstance. The above take control and dictate circumstance.

As serious rather than just eye candy...

Naomi Rapace is a great call, Ripley was up there, Gal in wonder woman was great for the way it played its gender politics.

Rosalind Russell playing Hildy Johnson in 'His Girl Friday'.  Fast-talking, sharp-as-a-tack, runs towards danger.

'Don't worry, yeah, I'm on the job'

Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow and Sicario... Well, Benicio did most of the action in the latter, but she was still good!
