Hi All,
Going to be in the Berwick upon tweed (Ancroft) area first week of August, looking for recommendations on the following;
Cafe/tea rooms
Beaches for walks with the dog and other dog walks
Castles and days out, dog friendly if possible
Road bike essential roads in the area, nice scenery etc.
How far are you thinking of travelling from Berwick?
Castles South of there are bamburgh (with great beach), lindisfarne (honey pot), further still, Dunstanburgh
North is St. abbs head and Coldingham beach
^ is all good. Eyemouth chippy is superb. Not that exciting for road cycling IMO, rolling farmland mostly.
Don't forget to explore Berwick's walls and beach.
Good reply's so far. As regards to travelling probably 2 hours max in a car. No nice coastal road?
There are lovely coastal footpaths to the North of BoT, I've not been to the South.
If you've got a couple of hours to spare try Ross beach (on the northern side of Budle Bay), you'll have mile upon mile of glorious beach to yourself. Or a bit different, head in to Duns for the Jim Clark rooms - motor racing world champ of the area.
Bamburgh / Dunstanburgh Castle for beach views.
Chillingham Castle for haunted history!
Lindersfarne/Holy Island (do not cock up the tides as actual real people have to take risks to rescue you)
There is a great coast all the way down through Northumberland
Get the train up to Edinburgh for a day, less than an hour each way. Loads going on at this time of year. Proper day out !
P.S unless you are from Edinburgh of course. Then it would be a rubbish day out.
