Hi,
Going to Berwick on Tweed for a few days between xmas and new year and was looking for recommendations for decent places to eat (think posh burger / pub food rather than michelin stars), sights to see and pleasant walks. I'm not taking the bike so don't make it worse by recommending amazing rides that I won't be able to do 🙁

Thanks in advance.

Holy Island
Seahouses for a boat trip to the Farne Islands. Wrap up well.
The Barracks at Berwick are interesting.
St Abbs Head is a lovely walk.

About 15mins north from Berwick just over the boarder is Eyemouth which has a nice harbour with seals that regularly come in.
Best beach for miles is just a few minutes north of Eyemouth which is Coldingham Bay and then just round the corner from Coldingham is St Abbs head which is an absolutely cracking walk from the road up to the lighthouse and back to the carpark. St Abbs is also a lovely little harbour.

This is good fun if it's running when you're there.

If you like castles there are many in Northumberland Banburgh, Lindisfarne, Dunstanburgh,Alnwick etc but head up the coast a wee bit to the rugged Fast Castle ruins on the Berwickshire coast. A great walk for a winter's day especially if it's a bit windy too.
You could do Cove harbour same day

Spittall Food store for pies, you need go in the morning or they’ll be sold out. Eyemouth for ice cream, fish she chips.  St Abbs to visit new Asgard and see Thor’s house.

Bamburgh for Bamburger, the fish shack and potted lobster.

Alnwick The Dirty Bottles for burgers, ribs and smoked meats. Pig in Muck for good beers, cocktails and tapas.

Agree with the pie shop in Spittal, most places are located on Bridge Street or Hide Hill. Atelier is good, there’s several other places on there too including The Curfew micro pub - snacks only and excellent beer. There’s an old fashioned chip shop on the steep West Street - A Corvi - fish, chips, bread and butter, mug of tea, £8 eat in. The Indian restaurant is a rather grand building and was doing dinner time specials. A place we’d passed many times and ignored until our last morning is next to Go Outdoors, it used to be called Marshalls. A superb breakfast and a huge selection of home cooked cakes- recommended!
Keep an eye out for tap days at the excellent Bear Claw Nano brewery at Spittal usually Saturdays or first Wednesday of the month but liable to change. Food cooked next door.
We had excellent Berwick crab from the cafe on the quayside which can also be purchased from Berwick seafood on the Spittal side of the river.
Plenty of free parking around - sometimes you need a disc that you buy from local shops. Hope this helps, any more direct message me!
Edit - just seen the above negative comment, we go at least twice a year covid permitting. Lots of interesting things to see and do, friendly people too!

My kids always love the honey farm.

https://www.chainbridgehoney.com/

It would appear to be closed at the mo.

St Abbs Head is a nice walk.

Eyemouth beach is good

Jim Clark museum in Duns, if you're into motorsports

Go see Chiswick Sands south of BoT, drive through Chiswick and keep left, over the railway and park - walk through the dunes aiming for the sea.

Vast, open and empty.

@wheelsonfire1 Berwick and Tweedmouth have lots of hidden gems for bars and cafes, it’s not somewhere I visit despite being so close and having family there.

Ah yes, Cornerhouse Cafe too - dog and people friendly. Cocklawburn beach as above, lots of space, fantastic sand and a farmer who doesn’t like Motorhomes- but I’ve been back and let that one go! Take your anoraks and a flask, lots to see and do that costs nowt!

My dad lives in Berwick so I’m up there on a regular basis.

Foxtons is a good place for an evening meal.
Northern Edge Coffee is nice too
The Curfew - winner. As is bear claw in spittal if you are there while they are open.
Marshall’s cafe next to go outdoors is a hidden gem, one of the best breakfasts about
Venture inland a bit and the Blue Bell Inn at crookham do cracking food.

Don’t worry too much about cycling there, it isn’t the best anyway.

A small correction for the beach recommendation above that will make it easier to google, it’s Cheswick not Chiswick. The better parking for the beach is at Cocklawburn and is accessed through Scremerston. The pillbox and lookout towers are good to explore for a few minutes.

All the recommendations are spot on.

+1 for The Curfew and Bear Claw Brewery.

The Jim Clark museum at Dunns is worth a look if you like old motor racing.

Northern Edge Coffee on Silver Street is good.

Audela restaurant on Bridge Street is a bit posh but very good food and service.

The main walks we did when I used to go there were: Round the walls, along the pier, out to the Needle's Eye along the cliff top path, out to the Chateau Pedro along the Tweed past the rowing club, Spittal and back.

We're actually staying in Scremerston so the beach recommendation is spot on.

A couple of years ago we rode to Holy Island for lunch from Scremerston on NYE. It was a cold, puncture-fest from all the thorns after the autumnal hedge cutting

Not having a bike might be a bonus
