Considering selling mine with 88k on the clock

This is not a stealth ad but was wondering if it’s really worth it Wbac offered us 7750

It is a solid little van with hardly anything wrong, Was the top of the range flair xtr so has all the gizmos but it is coming up for the timing belt doing and that’s 300 quid, has Always been serviced and recently the mot , mechanic said it would probably do another 50-75k the way I drive which is usually round trips of circa 300 miles once a week.

And that’s my problem I’ve had it 7 years now  and was looking to get a transporter , basically bigger van can get my bike in and sleep in it rather than just being able to get bike in and then look for digs wherever I am and it’s a change ( question is change for change sake)

Completely conflicted on wether to keep it upgrade or any other suggestions?

I had the car version and fitted myself in the back and bike for overnight stays...does yours have a bulkhead in it? If you remove that you could probably sleep in in with bike in there as well.

I'm 6'1" and a single airbed fitted if passenger seat was moved forward a bit.

Hi Dick Barton

That’s the one I have the MPV type with rear seats , had looked at one of those micro camper type beds , another 400 or so but would get me a bed in it ,

Im lucky I get to travel a fair bit to some remote locations where the biking is cracking but the nearest digs are 30 miles in the other direction

, I’m thinking I’m at the tipping point of spend on old vs spend on new , did consider just removing the rear seats permanently but it’s such a versatile car

A friend has a camper conversion in the back of her car based Berlingo.

Sounds like you are happy with the van and have looked after it properly. What would be the additional cost of chopping it in for a bigger van to sleep in? How many nights of "digs" does that equate to? What value do you put on a decent night's kip in a proper bed with a proper bathroom?

Posts crossed, accessibility of digs the issue then.

Ive just bought a VW California (the one without the furniture in it), and in my heart of hearts wish I'd kept my Caddy Maxi.
I'll give it a year...

Yeah...removed rear seats and it all worked...get some wind deflectors for front windows and you can leave them open a cm each and not steam up or get midges in

Conversely,  if wbac have offered £7750 for it then what does that do to your budget for something bigger? Depending on the age and condition of yours, that's strong money (if they actually stick to it obvs). They do hold their value, but then so will a transporter.

Fwiw, we've just bought a 12 plate berlingo xtr hdi, 90k on the clock with a recent cam belt, water pump and new clutch. Its pretty much immaculate and we spent £5k, after looking for a good one for months.

We're using ours for dog transporting duties, crate in the back and storage for holidays/ days out etc. For a vehicle of its type, you won't get much more space or versatility for the money.

Thats interesting as the berlingo is a similar size and they had a camper version called a caddy California thought about it seriously as an option

This one’s a 68 plate those transporters weigh in at 42 k new including the VAT so if I think on its going to cost a lot per year of ownership, just been to look at one and it’s like an aeroplane hanger compared to the berlingo mpv , I did look at the new berlingo as I can get one for 25k but it’s now a commercial vehicle even the mpv one

Commercial vehicle isn't that bad...reduced speed limits and van-spec tyres, but otherwise, same vehicle. If it meets your needs then why not if it is that 'cheap'...

This is basically what I was going to say. There's so many stretches of A road that are 50mph restricted, or you get behind a truck on a national limit bit that van speeds are enough. Indicated 65 on a dual carriageway won't get you pulled and makes 10 miles less than a minute slower.

If it's just you and a bike you could easily make a small platform for the mattress and bike inside. How new a Transporter are you looking at as you'll need a fair wedge.

I've just bought a Stellantis version of the California and an aftermarket fold out bed system, but that's for carrying two. You could get away with one bike under the bed (it sits quite high over the folded rear seats) but two would be a push with camping gear whilst sleeping in it.

I have a Peugeot partner MPV van that I'd made into a micro camper. didn’t want to totally strip it out, so built on what was there and it's great for dry trips for a couple of night for me, the OH and the dog.

started with a floor

IMG20200726183929.jpg

made some storage bits and a flap so I could put the single seat back in if needed.

IMG20200811173119.jpg IMG20200811173110.jpg

made a sliding bed and a kitchen thing. IMG20200811173145.jpg IMG20200821205804.jpg IMG20200821210040.jpg

used it, jiggled the inside about a little, built some shelves in the rear windows

IMG20201004184201.jpg IMG20201004184142.jpg

and it's good for carpark coffee and you can fir the bike in, and sleep in the same bit (when the dog cage isn't in there!)

20240819_142202~3.jpg IMG20230924095023.jpg

most importantly, the internal tailgate door catch

IMG20200725184213.jpg IMG20200725184145.jpg IMG20200725184141.jpg

It's been a great van. roofbox on top and a thule rack up there too if we're on a longer trip and have a full van.

I did look at those called a holidays or something already sold out for the year at the local dealership
