Just seen a nice low milage one just up the road, 1.6 16v 97hp so what can I expect mpg and running cost ?? What are they like to drive etc.
Cheers Blast
I had an 03 1.6
Wasn't bad power wise. felt much better than the 1.9d but nowhere near as powerful as the 2.0hdi. It did slow down on the hills when loaded.
Was a great car/van. miss it. Timing belt snapped. Make sure that's been done. think its every 40k ish to be safe.
Oh MPG was between 30-35 never any more than that even on motorway
if its the older shape one I've got thule roofbars in the garage that i dont need anymore 😉
Had my 2002 1.6 petrol about eight years now. It's only just starting to complain at nearly 170k.
Fantastic car.
Mk2 or mk3? ("new shape" mk 3 are 08 on, but they still sold mk2 for a while).
I drove the 90bhp petrol and diesel back to back when I got my old berlingo (mk3) the diesel drove a lot nicer, for that sort of vehicle, often full of people or stuff, the torque really helps.
The one I looked at was 2011
30 seems a bit low
30-35 is normal for a 1.6 16v petrol. its old technology in a brick of a car.
The 1.6 16v isnt even all that green if its diesel fear thats got you.
Not affraid on the diesel , but running a nissan note petrol at moment and like the way it drives light and nippy and easy on the wallet.

Depends how you define "green". Around 20 times less NOX in real use up to and including Euro 5 is a good reason to choose petrol if you drive in urban areas. Evidence from Côte d'Ivoir where lung cancer rates have tripled in recent years says diesel soot is a killer. Africa is currently importing around 500 000 old diesels a year from areas in Europe that have banned their use in towns.
Euro 6 diesels still produce soot in large quantites, soot of the most dangerous kind; soot fine enough to get through the particle filter and deep into our lungs.
So you can have an immediate threat (nox) or a long term thread (co2)
The old technology in the 1.6 16v has high co2
If you want to go petrol for green reasons then you need to be looking at the small 3 pot turbos- still not a Zoe. But significantly lower CO2
My point was that simply choosing a petrol for green reasons isn't as simple as choosing. Petrol if your going to buy into dinosaur tech.
Your point is now more nuanaced and I agree, Trailrat.
On the basis that most cars will run till they break somewhere so a second-hand choice won't change much in terms of global CO2 but it will affect your local levels of health threatening pollution.
However, long term if you buy a second-hand petrol the person you buy off is less likely to replace it with a diesel. By avoiding diesels second hand you reduce demand, reduce resale values and tip the balance in favour of petrol, hybrid and electric when people are deciding what to buy new.
Don't create demand for something you know is bad and avoid making posts on a net forum that encourage people to make the wrong choices for the wrong reasons. 🙂
