2007 1.4 petrol - 64k miles in good nick but basic. £3400

2009 (new shape) 1.6 petrol - 20600 miles - good nick overall - aircon and cd player etc - £4600

anyone know of any issues with the newer 1.6 PETROL engine?

No issues re petrol if its the 16v engine but still prefer the 1.6 diesel but if your doing low milage or constant city driving its probably the smarter move.

Look for any evidence of a leak around the head gasket. If there's anything there you'll end up with a big problem if you are intending to run it up to the 100,000 mark. Doesn't happen to all, but I know of several that have suffered from it.

If theres a service history, see if you can look at the invoices and whether a smell of coolant has been investigated. Same problem, and another way of detecting it.

its a no brainer at those prices.

id buy the 1.6 assuming nothing lurking in its history.

I thought about this this morning, the price difference between the 2 and age / mileage differences suggest either the 1.4 is overpriced, or the 1.6 is too good to be true.

Berm bandit- what sort of cost? Warp the head or just a straight fwd skim/new top on? The 09 one check its condition and previous owner carefully, even a petrol one can be taxi'd.

hora - on a peugeot it would be obvious if it had been taxi'd believe me they dont wear well once above 100k.

Ok verify/check it is defo not taxi stickers plus the mileage right. I say this as you've had one nightmare with a berlingo and a false mileage could lead to a missed cambelt-change.

Check round rear door kickplates for wear...

The 1.6 sounds like a bargain to me.
