I’d rather have pretty much anyone but Johnson in power.

Rees-Mogg, Patel, Truss: there are three names who would be even worse than Johnson, and I don't even keep a close eye on Tory MPs. Presumably there are hundreds of them that are more bonkers than Truss, hence they're outside the cabinet and she is in.

If Keith has any sense at all he will be hoping this never gets mentioned ever again😱

Depends on the criteria for being in the cabinet. This is Johnson.

Bercow joining the Labour Party? Of course it will be mentioned, repeatedly, by the Tories, especially in Batley and Spen.

You can be sure that the voters of Batley and Spen will be constantly reminded that the man who tried to frustrate both the referendum result and parliament has now joined the Labour Party.

Bercow joining the Labour Party was a great coup for the Tories. They can only hope and pray that Starmer sends him to canvass in Batley and Spen.

And it would come as no surprise to me if he did, such is the level of Starmer's ineptitude.

however MPs just pretend to take him seriously as a moderator verbally, but basicaly just sneer at him in thier actions.

I can relate to that.

hmmm. I thought the most effective route to power in the UK was to be rampantly xenophobic?

To be fair, that happens whether Bercow joins Labour or not.

Boris Johnson has not joined the Labour Party.

I can relate to that.

Made me laugh!

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/john-bercow-asked-jeremy-corbyn-for-a-peerage-after-no-10-snub-hldvwfqwd

"in which he boasted of his four honorary degrees, ‘no fewer than five shadow ministerial roles’, a stint as deputy leader of the Tory group on Lambeth council – and experience as a tennis coach"

If his experience as a "tennis coach" didn't secure him a peerage then I can only assume only petty vindictiveness stopped him getting his ermine.

Maybe Starmer will have better luck getting him into the House of Lords.

The criteria for being in the cabinet are a willingness to blindly support the PM and the rest of the cabinet (including any unelected SPADs who control them). I agree there may be people who are even worse that BJ, but that’s like saying “don’t complaint about being punched, I could have kicked you”

He's been more Labour than Tory for years. An odious little man with a massive chip on both shoulders who has one objective - self aggrandisement. Whether its whoring himself to the media, after dinner speaking or his belief he should have a peerage for duties to obstructing but failing to stop a democratic vote, he doesn't mind, he'll take it all. He's just the kind of person Labour needs to reconnect with the average voter who normally would vote for them but doesn't....
And of course theres the unresolved bullying case that is ongoing...

Being a tennis coach seems considerably more worthy than the usual process, which just involves a cheque book (designer wallpaper went pay for itself!)

Used to be my MP. Good luck in believing he has much moral fibre, other that the promotion of himself.

It's all about Berkow - it is the fact that he has been turned down for peerage that has prompted the move not the desire to chance the world.

If Labour truly see this a coup, or that he is Labour's savour, it shows how bad thing are currently in the party ...

The only person who thinks this is a coup is John Bercow.

Bercow is too easily dismissed by the prats as he is a clear dyed in the wool remainer.

What the grownups need is a defector from the Brexit fanboys/gals, but that will never happen because they are only there because of either:

1) Their sheer stupidity in still genuinely believing in this nonsense.

2) Their willingness to hitch themselves to this nonsense to advance their own careers and/or the bank balances of their mates.

When you make adherence to a fundamentally stupid idea your only selection criteria the grownup haven't got a hope.

Coincidentally, I just tripped over this nugget from the Vote Leave campaign.

Is now the time to mention that Vote Leave's Boris Johnson's new wife is whisked around town in a limousine paid for by "British taxpayers"? It's a wise precaution to be honest. Sometimes that might be the case for MPs as well. I admire MPs who travel everywhere by public transport, but can't claim I'd have the courage to do so myself in their position.

Oh... and don't forget the current trend of using government limousines to ship minister's documents "around town" while they choose a more egalitarian looking means of transport themselves. So the money is still spent, the limousine journeys still happen, the carbon is still burnt, but the minister isn't inside. Did someone say "virtue signalling"?!?

Whether its whoring himself to the media, after dinner speaking ....

I believe the pandemic might have scuppered his plans for lucrative after dinner speaking engagements.

Still, I guess it means that he now has plenty of free time to help secure a great Labour victory by canvassing in Batley and Spen. Perhaps he can do his small angry man thing and bully reluctant voters to vote Labour.

Not that he needs them on a Speakers pension

He was still very keen though. And at £25k a night who can blame him...... nice work if you can get it.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/10568374/john-bercow-to-rake-in-25000-a-night-after-signing-to-lucrative-after-dinner-speaker-agency/

Mind you he is still available for when pandemic restrictions ease. So if you want hear him recall hysterical stories, such as when he claimed £367 in expenses for hiring a car to take him to Luton to deliver a speech on how MPs were restoring their reputation after the expenses scandal, then book him through this agency which specialises in hilarious comedians for after dinner speaking :

It'll be a shed load more interesting than most of the posts on here so I'd pay to listen to him based on that.

no he really has not. Its just labour has moved so far to the right in the last generation that tories like him can find a place in the labour party. A significant % of labour MPs are right wingers

I would argue that whether he frustrated parliament or not is irrelevant given that the government at the time illegally prorogued parliament. What is relevant is whether labour PR can learn to spin such things properly in modern media.

Have you ever read about Cherie Blair excesses ?
Also google “John Prescott’s wife”?

Politicians have egos - and it is somewhat daft to expect the PM’s concubine to travel on the tube …

I absolutely don't expect it. Bit I also didn't use the "spend our money on limousines" line in a referendum campaign that directly led to me getting the top political job in the UK.
